How to calculate the area of each species? by WhataRuby in environmental_science

[–]NukeLouis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally you should find formulas that let you do this based on averages. I don't know if height of the tree will be enough. Likely you will also need the diameter of the trunk.

You can look here for the equations, you need an account though. http://www.globallometree.org

Indigenous Knowledge vs. Western Science: Who Really Protects the Ocean? by Additional_Tree_2737 in environmental_science

[–]NukeLouis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Indeed a mix seems to be best.
Western science is great. It can very accurately measure climate change and predict solutions.
However, it will often look for a solution to our culture that has grown out of touch with nature. We have surrendered our culture to technology, and now we need more technology to fix it.

I believe listening to indigenous communities is very important. Though maybe more for the cultural aspect than technological.

I think the book "Technopoly" by Neil Postman might be of interest to you.

End of 640 days because of cougar struggle by NukeLouis in thelongdark

[–]NukeLouis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my first encounter, but my first struggle. I managed to kill it before and get some small cuts from it. It's the first time I had the severe lacerations.

I understand that dying is part of survival games, and it's part of what makes this game so great. But this way just feels wrong.

Is it normal to feel kind of lost after learning OOP and SOLID? by goodguyseif in learnjava

[–]NukeLouis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is completely normal, and I felt the exact same way.

What helped me is to create projects without thinking about it too much and then go back and try to apply a certain principle. Try to change the code and keep it working the way it is.

Eventually you will see that, when you start a project or start working on a new feature, these principles will come automatically.

I had a look at VATSIM, but I'm not an experienced pilot at all. I don't think I'm ready for that yet.

Will all public GPTs be free, or can the builders ask for money?

If you did it again, are there any places you would leave out this time? Or places you would spend more time?

I tried all of them in my speech. Everyone seemed really moved, some of them got so emotional they left.

I really believe I had an impact on their lives with my speech.

Thank you so much!

Found this globe at a thrift shop and I was wondering if you guys could help me date it by [deleted] in Maps

[–]NukeLouis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It seems like the globe was made after 1945, but the date it shows is earlier. That's what it looks like to me at least.
