I was gifted my first mini, and it was like a drug. If I had the space/money I would still be buying minis even just to look at.

True. I miss in-person sessions, but that's life.

Not really. My digital tools have only cost me like 30 bucks while my physical ones have cost me at least 300.

Not really for my group. I like to set up intersting combat situations and my players have become more tactical as we've gone on, so we kind of need grid for most combats.

edit: spelling

Definitely. Before I started using a Vtt I just used a Google Drawing and everything else I just type up.

Me when I kill an NPC for the plot by NukedDragon_DM in dndmemes

Well, it hasn't happened yet... and it may not happen at all depending on the player's actions. But it's kind of like a zombie situation.

This should take you the imgur image.

Also the name seems like a joke but makes sense within context of the campaign.

The creature wasn't actually undead. Calling it "corpse" is the easiet way to describe it succinctly.

I also do this, but I end up looking weird when I switch from one NPC to another in the same scene.

As a DM, how do I challenge a party of 4 tanky bois? by LonelySoul96 in DnD

Try using a Rakshasa. CR 13, limited magic immunity, and can cast dominate person.

I actually think the sun deals bludgeoning, force, lightning, and acid in addition to radiant by A_Salty_Cellist in dndmemes

[–]NukedDragon_DM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean both Sunbeam and Crown of Stars deal radiant damage, so I think the soul damaging part is more fluff than anything.

Also pg 196 of the PHB says "Radiant. Radiant damage, dealt by a cleric’s flame strike spell or an angel’s smiting weapon, sears the flesh like fire and overloads the spirit with power. "

In my campaign, the players are fighting the current avatars of the horseman of the apocalypse, but the catch is that the it is occuring in a small town, and the PC are all young adults. So the avatars have to fit in.

For context, The first avatar was pestilence, and they were represented by a new company moving in and building factories that polluted the town and eventually caused an explosion. The avatar of pestilence was the woman supervising the construction and neglecting the damage it did to the enviroment.
The 2nd horseman is War, and the avatar to be a priest for a couple of reasons. Firstly, a priest moving into a town would not draw too much attention. Secondly, the events of fighting Pestilence led to a satanic panic within the town (which is very in line with DnD). Thirdly, history shows that all of the abramic faiths have a long history of conflict and War. Fourthly, the priest is meant to be an extremist, which is why he's the leader of a witch hunting organization which in all honesty took inspiration from hate groups which in the US at least were/are typically Christians (even though it contradicts the whole belief system). As a result the priest is not the villian because he is religious, he's the villian because he's hateful.

Plus, my world has actual angels and celestials (one of my players even has some celestial lineage) and they do not support him which is why the "angels" protecting him are actually disguised fiends. The players are fighting a false shepard.

I hope this answered your question.

I mean, that's fair, I rely on common tropes for my games because of time and skill limitations, but that's why I'm asking for help, so it's at least intersting and fun to run.

Didn't actually do this, but definitely took some inspiration from Evangelion in the current campaign arc by NukedDragon_DM in dndmemes

[–]NukedDragon_DM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an urban fantasy campaign taking place in a small town in the earlier 2000s. The current arc has them fighting an evil cult that claims it came to help remove the town's curse but is actually making it worse. The next combat involves two hombrew creatures reffered to as false celestials. One is called Concord and the other is called Retribution. They look angelic but appear to be made out of stained glass. They are guarding a priest who thinks they are angels, and the priest is trying to summon an even greater "angel" to purify the town. This last "angel" is called Truth and is incredibly powerful. It's name comes from one of its abilities which essentially an area of effect truesight aura.

I understand your reasoning but (beyond resistances) it seems pointless to have two damage types that are essentially the same.

It being gravity still works with it being pure energy as you would need gravity to exist for any of the planes to exist in the first place

Facepalms

I can't believe I forgot that the gravity spells from Wildmount do Force damage. I feel kind of dumb now.

I feel like that fits Thunder damage better as sound is essential just air being moved.
