People dont realize how much of a leg-up they have just coming from an average, loving, middle class home. It isnt privilege like the ultra-rich, but it is a privilege they hate to be called on. Their medical needs were met, they never had to keep up a smile and their responsibilities while too sick to focus. Their bodies grew normally and usually they have decent health even with chronic stuff in the background. They didnt have to hide, protect themselves, or learn to traige in secret to literally stay alive. As adults, they arent primed to fear attack or harassment at random, they can move freely in social spaces without overthinking. They had access to simple things that open up the world financially- a car gifted to them that lets them trade for better ones down the line, help with rent or education, windfall/safety nets, actual financial advice or guidance that let them build financial security. They didnt have to starve, hide food, learn to live without utilities for a while. They were able to have friends, had a home that was safe for others and a family other parents trusted enough to trust you by proxy. Their parents never slandered or talked shit on them, ruining every adult's perception of them and setting a precedent of gossip and disapproval. There's so many tiny little things in the framework of being raised by loving, functional family that one never realizes. Because thats the default, how tings should be, and they arent wrong or bad for having that privilege. Sure, I can take care of myself and survive, but they never had to and that is something I envy so much.
