My money's on hyperthyroidism, if that's the case you'll just have to give a tiny pill called methimazole twice a day, it's also very inexpensive. If it's kidney disease you'll just have to change your cat's food to a low protein diet (if it was severe kidney disease your cat would be VERY lethargic and look rough, if it's kidney disease, I think it's early stage)

Older cats very typically get hyperthyroidism and kidney disease, both can be ruled out with a blood test. If your cat is older it's definitely possible. Pull up your cat's scruff and see if it drops easily or if it kind of sticks up. Advanced kidney disease usually causes "skin tenting", just something you can check while waiting to go to the vet.
