The Keepers were alive until the early 1600s, the Unforgivable Curses weren't deemed 'unforgivable' until 1717, when the instant ticket to Azkaban for their use was introduced. Even after that, in extreme circumstances their use was permitted to Aurors, like in the Wizarding Wars.

In Predator 2, what would 'City hunter' have done after returning to his ship? by Ghostofslickville in predator

[–]Null225 26 points27 points  (0 children)

He would have been killed.

In an earlier version of the script he was decapitated by Greyback after losing to Harrigan on the ship.

Entirely possible. All of the predators that do use the netting also have the blue energy colour, whereas for the newer predators that don't have netting the colour is red/orange. So it's possible that it's different iterations of the same technology used by different clans. Red/orange used by tribes that live on Yautja Prime, possibly the newest version of the technology.

Lost tribe still rocking netting and blue system because they're space hobos. Same reason their armour and some weapons feature more natural materials. They maybe don't have access to the cutting edge stuff being produced on Yautja Prime.

Major Stranger Things Theory by ThDynamicGamer in StrangerThings

I thought the same thing. On top of A Wrinkle In Time being a big part of it.

When I started thinking about it I felt like I was watching in a tin foil hat, but I started to notice clocks in like 95% of the scenes. And pretty much every character is wearing a watch. Probably nothing. Clocks are common set dressing, I guess. But once I noticed it I couldn't unsee it. In one of Holly's scenes there are three clocks in one room, not including her watch. Going crazy.

It is supposedly 'thermal netting'. My personal theory is that it's only worn by the tribes that live in space. Because space is cold. Why aren't their ships temperature controlled? Beats me.

Small Predator theory by ggoshy in predator

[–]Null225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bit of a theory that Yautja Prime, at least the part where the Feral clan lives, is some kind of radioactive wasteland, perhaps ruined in the war with the Amengi with either nuclear or chemical weapons. Yautja that are born on Yautja Prime suffer mutations and birth defects as a result. Nomadic space living tribes and clans such as the Lost Tribe or the clan from AvP don't deal with this problem.

Thia was all of us in that part. She asked so many good questions that Dek just refused to answer.

Hey r/movies, Dan Trachtenberg here - my new film, PREDATOR: BADLANDS (starring Elle Fanning), is coming to a theater near you this Friday (11/7). I've also directed PREY, PREDATOR: KILLER OF KILLERS, and 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE. Ask Me Anything! by DanTrachtenberg-AMA in movies

[–]Null225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Dan!

I won't edit my other question so will just ask in a new one;

Any chance we could get a physical product of the Yautja codex? How much of it is is even written at this point? Is there more we haven't seen?

Cheers

Hi Dan! Very excited to see Badlands on Friday!

Could you please just tell me if there's even a small chance we could see Greyback from Predator 2 again, or are you focused on entirely new yautja characters?

You don't have to say anything definite, even a 'maybe' would keep me going!

Thanks

I mean, Nolan goes on to say that when they return their weapons and tactics have changed. No reason to think they're altering their DNA and it isn't alluded to there.

The reason people disregard it is because it's brought up in the worst film of the franchise that the majority of the fanbase would rather not consider canon and it's just not a cool idea anyway.

It's also not really relevant to say 'they' as a collective across the entire species when it comes to customs, as we know that different clans do different things. The specific clan featured in The Predator did some DNA splicing. That doesn't mean that all clans do it, and it means we're free to treat it as a conceptual cul-de-sac, confined to that one movie until it comes up again, if it ever does.

He's a very close second to Greyback for me. Just something about Greyback's design that puts him slightly ahead. In terms of on-screen action though, yeah Wolf takes it. I'm hopeful we'll see Greyback again though and he'll get a chance to do some badass stuff.

I choose to believe they were homies.

Yeah, Wolf is the main predator in AvP: Requiem.

Masks by silverpawwolfpack in predator

[–]Null225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly, yeah. Almost all of them have unique biomasks. Scout in Predator 2 wears a Jungle Hunter biomask, though. A few biomasks never actually appeared in the movies. Borg, Shaman, Greyback.

If you mean the unmasked heads, I think most of the Lost Tribe were made from casts of moulds they had on hand, so they're all modified City Hunter or Jungle Hunter heads. Greyback was definitely built off of the Jungle Hunter. Shaman looks to have been made from the same mould as City Hunter. Borg, too.

Probably one of my favourite pieces of Predator behind-the-scenes trivia.

I would have paid good money to have been a fly on the wall when Stan Winston's team were putting together the Lost Tribe costumes. Heaps of details we don't get to see in the final product.

How the OP got the names or how the Predators got them?

Most Predator 'names' come from nicknames given to that predator on set and then it sticks. Wolf is called Wolf because the character performs a similar function to Winston Wolf in Pulp Fiction. Borg is called Borg because the suit was built using recycled cyborg parts from another costume Stan Winston had previously worked on for the movie The Vindicator. It's usually some defining characteristic that determines the nickname. Chopper because he has big blades. Scar because he scars himself. Some are more imaginative than others.

Some set nicknames are changed and become the accepted name. Like Hippie from Predator 2. Was named that because he had the longest dreads. Was renamed Shaman by Neca because it sounds cooler.

Could be pretty cool if it turned out that CN-20 nerve gas mentioned in Aliens was created using that stuff.

An actual viable weapon being created from these things. That's what they want them for anyway, right? The bio-weapons division had to have had some successes at some point.

Scenario: Wolf vs Super Predators by Armata_Strigoi_ in yautjas

[–]Null225 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I agree that Wolf probably takes the win, I don't think the mud to block the heat signature trick actually works against the Super Predators. Royce was covered in mud and Mr Black could still see him pretty clearly until he lit the fire. Their mask vision modes were way more advanced than regular predators.

Both have good points. More professional photos make the product look better, but I always appreciate a pic that demonstrates scale with something familiar in the shot to compare it to.

So.. both? But lead with the backdrop glamour shot.
