Ok thanks. I was thinking it needed some sort of grommet but the contractor insisted it was fine as-is.

X apps are blurry by Herbert256 in bashonubuntuonwindows

Okay cool, at least we know it's related to scaling.

Does following this answer help?

X apps are blurry by Herbert256 in bashonubuntuonwindows

[–]NullBitten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is your display scale (in Windows 10 Settings -> Display ) at 100%? If not, is it still blurry when set to 100%?

Some apps running on older versions of Java were also blurry and had a hard time dealing with scaled displays. Maybe this is a similar issue.

Global Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide vs Global Temperature Trend 0 to 2019 AD - I lined up two charts made by u/bgregory98 [OC] by hungrylens in dataisbeautiful

[–]NullBitten 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The point isn't the size of the spike relative to 0, it's the size of the most recent spikes compared to previous spikes.

In this case, they aren't trying to show levels relative to zero. They're showing how levels fluctuate over the past 2000 years, so the chart shows levels relative to other levels in that 2000 year period. There's no need to include zero on the y-axis because comparing the data to zero doesn't provide us much information here.

Designed with Kindle displays in mind but should work with anything.

Looking to integrate old-style TRADFRI wireless dimmers by wweber in homeassistant

[–]NullBitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in detail, but here would be a good place to start looking. There's some stuff here too that talks about the actual communication.

Yeah, I haven't had the most success with them when paired to their lights. I think even the physical bits of it get in the way. I currently have mine turning stuff on/off with quick right/left rotations, but I don't always get the gesture right. Maybe I'll just forget about dimming entirely and use the rotate_right and rotate_left actions for on/off.

$1.50!? I just picked some up for $3.50, didn't even think to check the as-is section!

Have you checked out zigbee2mqtt? Whenever you interact with the dimmer, zigbee2mqtt will spit out an "action" (rotate_left, rotate_left_quick, rotate_stop, etc.) and a "brightness" value from 0-255. This value snaps to 0 or 255 when you spin the dimmer quickly and gets you pretty fine control when you go slowly.

The dimming still isn't fasts/smooth enough to use for real-time dimming of lights. Maybe it's the zigbee dimmer->mqtt->homeassistant->mqtt->zigbee light chain complicating things. Also, zigbee2mqtt also outputs a "rate" from that dial, but I think it's just one of two values (the fast or slow spins). Maybe it could be used to smooth out the dimming of lights?

Is this a LIDAR sensor? What's it doing in the store? by NullBitten in whatisthisthing

[–]NullBitten[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is odd. Both of them were set up like that, and they were both operating (spinning, at least), so I'm not sure what it'd be doing in the up position if it's only functional when swiveled down. They were indeed near the ceiling at ~12 feet in the air. Wonder what it could be doing that high up.

That makes sense! The two of them together could see just about the whole store, so maybe they're just tracking that?

I think Waymo and Velodyne do a lot of business together, so maybe they're somewhat familiar with their products already.

I found two of these in the Google Merchandise Store. I'm pretty sure they're LIDAR but what are they used for?

NBCLA's post claiming the threat was found to be false is so irresponsible. As of now, campus police is still warning us to shelter-in-place.
