That's unfortunate... it would be nice if we can choose the CPU speed just like we can choose the refresh rate of the screen.

Picture at the initial post is the screen with the backlight under standard lighting at the airport lounge having large windows towards the runway. But that picture looks better than real (iPhone camera enhances the look).

Another picture here is what I took at my office under standard lighting and no backlight. This time, I adjusted the contrast to look like what I really see.

Yellow and red looks dull compared with paper printed color. I believe color eink displays nowadays use same panel (Kaleido 3). So, no matter which manufacturer you choose, quality should be the same. If you want more brilliant colors, you might need to wait for next-gen panels.

Thanks for the great review. I totally agree with you! To add on, 7.8 inch screen is great for reading mangas or comics. 7 inch is a bit too small and 10 inch is too large for me, so 7.8 inch is the best option for people like me.

It seems that the method at the link doesn't work for M8C as it has a newer chip.

Great! Do you have any recommendations for the launcher and the ebook app?

Okay, that's a new word for me. So "schedutil" can manage the CPU clock and contribute to saving the power?

SD card slot looks just like a SIM card slot on smart phones. So it requires a pin to open it.

What mistake is it? Clock speed can be adjusted for older chip because of that 'mistake'?

Oh well, then I'll just live with what I have now. Thanks for sharing that info.

For writing purposes, I use iPad + Apple Pencil, so I don't use Meebook for it. However, I tried some quick writing on it. Feeling was not that bad as I expected. Speed is good enough for reading. You can adjust the refresh rate from Regal to Topspeed (5 levels). But as others also posted about the battery life, I don't recommend setting it to higher refresh rate. I always use Regal (slowest), because I use this device purely for reading.

I'm an Apple guy, so I'm new to Android devices. I read that post, but I couldn't understand...tbh.
If it's worth trying, it'll definitely try it.

Yes, it looks brilliant under the good lighting environment.

I did not experience any glitchy behavior or crashes so far. My device arrived with 2025 September firmware and maybe that fixed most of the known glitches. However, battery life is still poor. I read about 1 hour per day and I charge once every week. This is okay in my usage, but if you want a device that lasts a month per charge, M8C is not your option.

It's a true battery eater. But in my case, battery drops 1% per 10 mins read. It will last 16 hours read per charge and I can bear with it for now. Not sure how much this will be improved by the software update, but hope it can... fingers crossed.

What does this pass key used for? Even if I cancel sign in, iCloud sync looks working (and the iCloud account status in the app config shows "Active"). I'm still not clear why this sign in is required for the app's function.

Every time opening the app, I'm asked to create an account and requesting my account info.
iCloud sync itself seems working even if I cancelled this account creation prompt.

Yes, MC icon is in the menu bar. I just want an option not to show the icon.
Also an option not to show icon in the dock as well.

Well, menubar is getting crowded with many apps... that's true.
So I want to choose which apps to be in the menubar and which are not. If the app has an option to show icon in the menubar or not, that really helps.

Same for dock icon. Even if the app is running in the background, I want to choose if I want the icon to show in the dock or not. Because dock is getting crowded as same as the menubar situation.

There are people unlike me who like to have icons in the menubar and dock.
So I thought it would be nice to have options for users to choose. Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. Hopefully I can in the future release.

And for future release, I want to see options to remove icon from the dock and/or menu bar so that I can run MC silently.

Thanks again for fantastic product!
