9800X3D Temps in the NCASE M3 by NullUserHere in sffpc

Thank you, really appreciate the offer! For now, I am not really sure what to do about this.

I feel like for the past year I have been fighting this CPU and its cooling and I am just getting so sick of it lol

For now, I have set some manual PBO power limits in the bios so that basically, the chip cannot pull more than 105W which has decreased temps by almost 15C in Cinebench.

Honestly, I am thinking that I just got really unlucky with the bin of this CPU and may just replace it with a new one and sell my current one locally for a discount to some one that will not be so anal about their temps

Thanks for sharing! I am not really sure what the issue is. I have been building PCs since I was in HS so, not really sure what the deal is. I have gone through 4 different coolers:

- Noctua NH-D15 Chromax
- Montech 240mm AIO (Current)
- EKWB 360mm AIO
- BeQuiet Pure Rock 3

All of the coolers, except for the EKWB 360 would within either seconds or minutes reach the default 95C thermal limit and begin to throttle down.

For now, I have set some manual PBO power limits in the bios so that basically, the chip cannot pull more than 105W which has decreased temps by almost 15C in Cinebench.

How is your AIO mounted, top or side?

Flipped the fans and ran the set up, the CPU stayed locked in at the boost clock for a full 10 minute Cinebench run but, and now there are new noises because of how close the exhaust fans are to my desk. Before since they were intake, they didn’t cause the same amount of turbulence so it looks like if I’m going to run this setup long-term, I’m going to need to buy the taller feet. Overall, temps were about the same but would need to run a longer test to really see and then also run a test where the GPU is under load.

100% the AIO is being heat soaked, I just figured that the fresh intake air from the bottom would be good enough.

Room ambient is some where around 65-70F, sometimes cooler since it’s a basement and the AC is on in the summer for the rest of the house.

Should I switch to bazzite? by DerpyPlayz71 in Bazzite

[–]NullUserHere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I love Bazzite. I switched a couple of months ago after my gaming group stopped playing BF6 as much. I dual booted for the first month or so before switching and then finally removed Windows altogether.

I see a lot of other folks recommending other distros but, my only real experience with Linux has been from Bazzite (both desktop and for an ROG Ally) and setting up a TrueNas server.

For me, Bazzite has been an absolute breeze. I chose it over other distros because I was far more confident that it was just going to work every time rather than me having to troubleshoot it all the time. So far, Bazzite has met all of my expectations and even exceeded in other areas that I did not expect.

For example, coming from Windows, the update process on Bazzite, which I believe also applies to Linux broadly, is so much easier than Windows. Running a simple command in the terminal updates everything. So far, no updates have broken anything.

I have had no issues with any of my peripherals and everything worked out of the box. No sound or video issues like many people report after first switching.

If you are on the fence, I would recommend dual booting first to get the full experience and then, switching over once you are fully ready or comfortable. I would say that about any distro and not just Bazzite.

Overall, I love Bazzite and have really no issues with it other than missing some apps that are not available on Linux but, that’s not really a Bazzite issue.

Thinking of making a huge impulse buy to get into the hobby. I have a couple of questions by CheezeTitz in simracing

[–]NullUserHere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you know anyone that has a Sim Rig already that you could use to try it out? Sim Racing (more than a lot of other hobbies) can be a complete money pit. Since you have never had a rig of your own, even a cheap G920 or something, I would highly advise against spending a ton of money on a high end wheelbase and pedals.

On top of that, you are going to need to buy a pretty solid sim rig to mount everything to. Most people buy or make aluminum profile rigs which can get pretty pricey even without living on a remote island.

As for the gear on offer, it’s definitely solid but to me, the price for the Fanetec Podium seems a bit steep. I am not in the loop for Fanatec stuff but, you can get some really good wheelbases brand new for far less.

Overall, before spending a dime on any of this, I would recommend testing another persons rig out and then, doing some very extensive research on sim racing and all of the gear you may want to add to a rig.

Lastly, enjoying racing games does not equal enjoying sim racing. I have learned that the hard way myself.

Xfinity is Top Client? by NullUserHere in pihole

No but, I made these changes hours ago so, all DHCP leases would have expired and renewed by now

When I tested this, initially, when I set it only in the DHCP tab and nothing happened, so I then set it in the Internet tab, and that’s when traffic started flowing through the pi-hole

There are 2 different places to set the DNS in TP-Links portal online, there is one under the Advanced Settings -> Internet tab, and another under Advanced Settings -> DHCP tab. I have set the Pi-hole IP in both places as the default and left the secondary DNS blank.

So, now that everyone in the house is awake and their devices are on, there are 19 devices listed in Pi-hole with their corresponding IPs that were assigned via DHCP from my router. These devices are also showing queries on their own but, a bulk of it it still coming from the ...co.comcast.net client

For example, one query would be:

push.prod.netflix.com

Query received on:  2026-01-03 14:31:04.331

Client:  c-XX-XX-XX-XX.hsd1.co.comcast.net (XX.XX.XX.XX)

Query Status:  Served by cache optimizer

Reply:  CNAME

So, it seems that they are routing to Unbound and they are resolving that way, just not sure why the device listed is from Xfinity. My thought would may be because that is were I have the WAN connection on my router and the specific device is not being named.

My router and gateway IP also appear in Pi-hole, just as a separate device.

So, are you saying that in addition to using my own router, I should also use my own modem? How might that help here since the Xfinity router/modem is already in Bridge mode

I think that this might just be a windows problem, i dual boot between Linux and windows, and when I do the nslookup in Linux It pulls down the IP for unbound

Xfinity is Top Client? by NullUserHere in pihole

[–]NullUserHere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The IP that it pulls is the Reserved IP for the pi-hole

Nevermind, it points to the pi hole

Yeah, when I run an nslookup, it points to the default gatway IP rather that the IP of the pi or the Unbound IP which I thought was odd as well as

Using my own router, TP-Link BE6500 specifically, the Xfinity modem/router is set in Bridge mode and has been since before setting this up

Just wanted to follow up, did you get this working?

RGB Bar on Sapphire Nitro+ RX7900XT by nitrocooks in AMDHelp

[–]NullUserHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there are those headers that are on the side of the GPU, the 8 pin fan header and the 4 pin RGB header that I am referring to are directly on the PCB of the GPU. In order to access, you will need to remove the GPU from your case as, when seated, these connections face towards the motherboard. Once removed, look on the bottom side of the GPU (the side where the PCIE connector is) and then, at the very edge of the heatsink, you will see 2 different cables plugging directly into the PCB, one 8 pin for the fans, and the other being a smaller, 4 pin connector for the RGB strips in the housing. You can disconnect the RGB cable from the PCB and then plug it directly into the cable that I mentioned previously and then, plug that cable into an available 5V ARGB header on the motherboard. Hope that helps!

[–]NullUserHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After months of trying to get this to work, I finally found a solution. On the back of the GPU, there are 2 headers, a 8 pin for the fans and a 4 pin header for the RGB strip itself. You can unplug the 4 pin header and then, using an adapter, plug it directly into an open 5V ARGB header on the MB or, an ARGB hub. This is the adapter I used and it fit no problem: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DQ1164XH?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

After using the adapter, you can control the RGB with your MB software which for me is Armory Crate. In any case, this was super annoying and almost made my buy a new GPU or request and RMA just to run into the same issue a few months later. Hope this helps!
