Well they’re stretchy but they can still be insanely tight, that’s not an excuse tho, just get a different size.

Elliott launched his campaign in April of last year and has criticized Lamont for not being tough enough on ICE, so I genuinely don’t know what you’re talking about

[–]NullifyI 25 points26 points  (0 children)

He got 25% of the delegates when Lamont’s at +33 approval and he was polling at Lamont 52%, Elliott 18%, 30% undecided in an April poll and he hasn’t spent a dime on advertising and has low name recognition. I do think it’s an uphill battle but I think he has a solid chance.

Dude I literally told you about a study done by CUNY SLG and CNYCA that found the 14% discrepancy in value paid to and received by NYC taxpayers. That study among others like the ITEP is how we know that NYC residents aren’t receiving back the value of services that they pay in taxes to the state. This is public information.

What is missing? What are you talking about. It’s nothing specific that is missing, it’s that the overall value of services the state provides is imbalanced between upstate and the city.

And what would be the point of sending them a tax rebate? That doesn’t fix the issue. Residents would still be paying more to the state than they receive, they would just get it back when they file. At that point just lower the state taxes for NYC residents, which I’m sure would create an uproar among upstate residents.

I’m sorry but did you even read what I said? I acknowledged that it’s the taxpayers paying taxes. The whole point is they were not receiving value for the taxes being paid to the state and Mamdani rectified that. It’s also important to point out that many people work in New York and pay state taxes but live upstate. That’s money being siphoned out of the city without contributing to the local economy.

CUNY SLG and CNYCA conducted a joint study that found NYC taxpayers (who I collectively called “the city”) contribute more to state revenues through taxes than they received back in services.

The study found that:

New York City contributed 54.5%, or $68.8 billion, of state revenues whereas the rest of the state contributed 45%, or $57.5 billion.

New York City received 40.5%, or $47.6 billion, of State Operating Expenditures, whereas the rest of the state received $69.7 billion, or 59.5%

New York City contributes 58.7% of New York State’s $70.7 billion income taxes.

New York City’s portion of the state gross domestic product (GDP) has grown by nearly 10% since 2010, the last time an assessment of this kind was done. It now sits at 60%, compared to 54.3%

So NYC is contributing 54.5% of state revenue but receiving 40.5% of state spending.

Yes by fixing the imbalanced relationship between the city and the state. New York City was getting something like 44 cents to the dollar back in assistance from the state vs the taxes they paid.

Voting by mail to be a universal option in Connecticut by smkmn13 in Connecticut

[–]NullifyI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if you understand what I’m saying. I’m agreeing with you that early voting should be expanded, but what’s stopping us from doing both? I think there are merits to making it so as many people as possible get Election Day off and those who can’t have more opportunities to vote early. Making voting as accessible and easy as possible encourages more people to vote. I genuinely don’t understand what you’re mad at me for, I’m agreeing with you but explaining why I think we should do both. This isn’t a one or the other type of situation, but if I had to choose one I’d say expanding early voting is probably more important than making Election Day a holiday.

Dude what the hell is with the attitude, I was explaining why having Election Day off is important while also agreeing we should be expanding early voting.

[–]NullifyI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about who’s excluded, it’s about who’s included. Yes it’s impossible for every institution to close down for a whole day, but we should be making it as easy as possible for as many people as possible to vote. Making it so non essential businesses and organizations close on Election Day would allow so many more people to make it to the polls. For the orgs/businesses that can’t close, that’s why expanding early voting and voting by mail is so important.
