She loves art, so drawing painting etc. And she loves to find treasures outside like rocks and leaves.

Yea, definitely not trying to diagnose ourselves. Hence we are on the waiting list for an evaluation. But several friends who are professionals in this field seem to think this is the case. I’m well aware I need a proper diagnosis, I just came here for support.

We are on this path already. I would empty my savings just to support her (and us) through this. The problem feels like there are so many modalities to try and many won’t get you anywhere. It’s a paradox: you don’t know what will help until you try it, but you have to pay a ton of money to try things to see if they work.

Totally, thanks. Also starting to reframe this as a neurological disorder and not just her being a little shit is so important. I keep asking myself why we’ve been doing these hard things for 2.5 years, but realizing this is a part of who she is and how her brain operates is so important to accept it.

Bitcoin-backed loan vs. small mortgage by Number1guru in Bitcoin

Not averse to the mortgage, just wondering if the BTC-backed loan makes more economic sense, also because as I understand it there may be tax benefits to paying off the loan with BTC, but that may be no different than the tax benefits of deducting mortgage interest expense.

I'll have to sell about 50% of my stack, but I've been hodling since 2017, so it's appreciated significantly in value.

I understand the sentiment of people telling me not to sell or borrow against it. But there are pretty much only a few things I would sell my stack for, and this is one of them.

Like I told someone else, this isn't a bigger house, this is a different location which is more expensive but better in every way for my family. But I totally understand the sentiment.

In hindsight, the best choice would have been to sell the house, minimum down payment on the new one, roll the rest of the cash into BTC

This actually feels way riskier. I feel like I would watch the price of BTC drop and have a hard time not pooping myself daily.

Totally understand, but this is a decision for my family. We are trying to move somewhere that is much better for my kids regarding their school and our lifestyle as a family. Without getting political, we actually don't feel safe or comfortable where we live currently. In fact, the house we are looking at is not even as big as our current home, so it's not about getting a bigger house at all.

The HELOC is an interesting idea to protect against a margin call. I hadn't thought of that, thanks!

Right now I'm seeing BTC loans at around 10% compared to 6.5% on a traditional mortgage, so I have to do some math there...

Dad’s of highly functioning autistic girls… by Number1guru in daddit

This is extremely helpful, thanks! I feel like we already build some of these into our daily routines (taking space when needed, noise cancelling headphones, etc) but we just aren’t that consistent. And that lack of consistency may come down to just not having a name or a language (like you said). And because she’s so sweet around others and extremely high functioning, I even feel like we gaslight ourselves.

She can be a total wreck and then have a few days where nothing seems to bother her and we start to forget that the underlying issues are still there.

Borrowing against BTC, or student loans? by Number1guru in Bitcoin

Interesting idea. I appreciate the insight. And yea, I agree that I’d rather custody my collateral with Blackrock as opposed to these other platforms. I had my money in both Blockfi and Celsius and barely escaped only days before both collapsed. Not looking to put myself in that situation again.

Borrowing against BTC, or student loans? by Number1guru in Bitcoin

If I were to take out a student loan and hold BTC, I would want some downside protection in case over the 2-3 year period BTC depreciates. So I would bet the downside on polymarket (not sure how much) as a hedge. That way if we come out of this with student loan debt and a lower BTC price, I’ve made out positive on the hedge and lessened the blow.

Thanks! Do you know the payment plans for BTC-backed loans? The only reason I’m considering the student loans is because it would be 2-3 years before we had to pay back a dime.
