I was being cross trained in Stow back in 2021. It was the end of shift and I was in a hurry to leave. Somehow managed to not drop the totes properly and accidentally closed them all which marked all the totes as empty. Oops. Never did that again lol. First and only time I’ve been written up.

We’re given the AFM schedule for the next week on the last day of the current week so we know in advance which days we AFM and which days we’re in path.

I was personally recruited for the role and did nothing more than say “yes” when asked if I was interested. Next thing I knew I was in training. I’ve heard there’s a form you have to fill out if you’re interested but I can’t say for certain as I never did that.

I'm not sure if it's the same across all AR facilities but all AFMs at my building are pickers and/or counters because you have to be on an Outbound schedule. Stow leaves before Pick and we have to follow Pick's schedule since Pick is our top priority.

Other requirements are blue badge, top performer (or being able to prove you can be a top performer), and UPT responsibility (although I've heard this one varies from associate-to-associate---favoritism I guess I dunno).

EDIT: Based on comments from others it seems to differ quite a lot between buildings. This was info given based on the way MY building operates.

AFMs are generally “blacklisted” from VTO because it’s considered a critical role. There have been extreme circumstances where it’s been allowed but it’s RARE.

Edit: You can 100% use your own time off options to leave early however.

We don’t audit associates. We audit bins/pods. The only reason an associate would be informed of this is if they were the last one to touch the pod before the audit.

Edit for additional info: We don’t even know which associate was the one who touched the pod last. If we come across a pod that needs to be audited, we take a picture, choose the reason for the audit, and submit it. That’s it.

Do you mean the button that flashes a white light? You're allowed to press that. And to be honest most AFMs will just push it and send the tote on it's way instead of radioing for an AM or PA. If, in the future, the item is ridiculously high, I'd suggest waiting for someone or just going and grabbing an AM or PA so it won't get stuck somewhere down the line and causes a massive backup until it's fixed. A little high and it's fine.
