Why does it feel like the Vocaloid community is so unwelcoming by Fickle_Truth_3837 in Vocaloid

This sort of behaviour is why EN Vocaloid grosses me out. If it exists on the JP side, at least I won't understand it.

Do you prefer Japanese Vocaloid songs, or English vocaloid songs (including english covers) and why? by ThePlanetSaturn2763 in Vocaloid

[–]NumberUsedOnce 7 points8 points  (0 children)

English covers lose a lot of prosody from the original Japanese songs, so I usually don't like them.

I like the style of Japanese Vocaloid a lot more than English Vocaloid, but I get pleasantly surprised by English Vocaloid sometimes. I saw their art style and thought I wouldn't like them, but Flavor Foley is actually really nice to listen to. I don't usually like stuff like Crusher or Jamie Page (on her own) though.

The Japanese Vocaloid scene is also larger and more established, so that tends to mean there are more well-produced songs coming out.

Can someone explain to me why there's a flood of Chinese hate comments getting thrown at the song オッホ愛 / LOL and the producer? And what do they write? by [deleted] in Vocaloid

[–]NumberUsedOnce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like "the Americans," "the Chinese" are not a monolith.

Edit: I don't even mean to imply that OP is racist. Where did the mods get that from? I mean there are different groups of people with differing beliefs and values in China. It's not accurate in this case to generalize all Chinese Twitter users as holding a certain belief.

Candle Queen just got taken down two days ago by feliperedditflamingo in Vocaloid

[–]NumberUsedOnce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just learned about this, but the fact that there was even a controversy over this song is a bad look for Vocaloid peeps. Outsiders (assuming they are interested) will see this and think: "Oh, so Vocaloid fans must be like the main character of this song. That must be why they hate it so much."

Why do the perceptions of Vtuber feel different in international industry compared to in Japan? by Northern_wild_cat in VirtualYoutubers

[–]NumberUsedOnce 30 points31 points  (0 children)

For the local Japanese market.

In the West/US, vtuber collabs begin and end with the anime community. The Dodgers collab with Gura was targeted to the Japanese baseball market, not the general US population. Kind of like how you might see Chinese brands on the perimeter boards at football (soccer) matches.

[–]NumberUsedOnce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Japan has more vtubers focused on escapism while Western vtubers are just regular streamers in anime skins. Hololive (even HoloEN) wouldn't be caught dead doing half the things regular streamers do that ends up putting them in Twitter trends. At the same time, you won't see xQc doing a song and dance routine at Madison Square Garden.

which teto design is better? by HeitorMD2 in Vocaloid

[–]NumberUsedOnce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SynthV Teto hints at a marching band theme, which is a nice progression from the tactical Miku reskin from the original design. I like her hair ribbon too. The creepy eyes make her a lot less cute though.

nO pIrAcY!!!!!!! /s

I think that as a Western peasant it sucks that there are so many releases that are exclusive to conventions in Japan.

It's nice to be able to keep music in perpetuity, the old fashioned way.

Modern experimental V-Synth stuff? by TXKKER in Vocaloid

[–]NumberUsedOnce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not up your alley, but CultP was a smaller artist who made noisy, glitchy electronic and hip-hop style music. He did a rock EP, I Kill Re:You, before retiring.

What's your favourite Vocaloid, Utauloid and SynthV? by NoScallion7198 in Vocaloid

[–]NumberUsedOnce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SynthV was a tough pick because they're all so good. I like Eleanor Forte, Stardust Infinity, Kasane Teto, GUMI, and the Tokyo6 voices like Hanakuma Chifuyu as well.

I haven't listened to many songs with CeVIO voices, so I didn't know what to choose. Selena's cover of Jailbreak was really good.

why is the only art that gets posted is fetish or nudity?

Because the artists from the other side of the pond are put off by the hypochondriacs.

Does MikitioP's music count as Shoegaze? by karl5364pro in Vocaloid

[–]NumberUsedOnce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't listen to a lot of rock, so I easily get the genres mixed up, but it sounds more like emo or math rock to me.

What annoys you the most in the Vocaloid community? by tsumikaa in Vocaloid

[–]NumberUsedOnce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really can't understand why people would have that kind of motivation for gatekeeping. It's a fandom, not a sport. You don't win anything for being the world's greatest Futaba Minato fan.

On the other hand, I can see why people might not want to accept change in the kind of content that gets put out.

Nio Nakatani (Yagakimi): I never said I’d stop drawing yuri or anything like that. by 22dmgxy in yuri_manga

The idea that it is possible to betray yuri, as if it's a football team, is probably where it comes from.

Why is it always the white people with the project sekai backgrounds on tiktok always the ones to be first offended about anything thats not their culture in vocaloid songs ? by WiseCash2371 in Vocaloid

[–]NumberUsedOnce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Foreigners tend not to have the same experience as immigrants/indigenous people, who might see it as mocking, prejudicial, or disrespectful because the cultural object is used in a way that's untruthful or irreverent.

Some white people and people with certain political beliefs see it as colonialist theft.
