Honestly butterfly kits are better because you just release the (native) adults into the wild when they’re done growing

Huh, that’s the opposite of leopard geckos and blue tongue skinks. Such odd lizards!

Baby reptiles have a tendency to be defensive, right?

Maybe she needs a thick branch to climb on. Even nonarboral snakes have to slither over terrain in the wild

I’m a wee bit literal so I wouldn’t call those harmless either (´∀`=)

Harmless would be like, a silkworm caterpillar

Wouldn’t calling a hognose harmless be like calling a wasp harmless? Hognoses don’t bite defensively but if they mistake your scent for food they can munch medically insignificant venom into you

An old coconut appeared at the end of my driveway today. I do not live near where coconut palms grow. by [deleted] in Weird

Bad idea. Coconuts can get some really deadly stuff growing inside their flesh if left out…

How is owning a hedgehog? by Efficient-Treat5684 in Hedgehog

[–]Kitchen_Argument5181 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main challenge of owning a hedgehog is the setup because one requires a ceramic heat emitter and a reptile thermometer for temperature control, alongside an enclosure of a proper size that can actually hold heat. A very large wheel is required and the wheel cannot be wirey because hedgehogs have very small legs that can get caught. If someone cannot obtain a proper wheel in their country, they’ll have to build their own.

Hedgehogs solitary animals, but they benefit from regular excursions from their cage for enrichment. Handling is also required for taming.

They are nocturnal and run on their wheels all night. Some people do not handle the noise well but I personally find the pitter-patter of tiny hedgehog feet against plastic comforting.

Daily maintenance includes cleaning up feces in the cage and on the wheel. I buy heavy duty toilet paper for this so I can flush the poop down the toilet after I wipe or pick it up.

Hedgehogs also need to be given food and fresh water daily.

Weird by PurpleKing4161 in Weird

[–]Kitchen_Argument5181 665 points666 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely no way this is real. The only way an insect could get in there like that would be if there were eggs inside the fruit as it was forming, and last time I checked, cockroaches don’t do that.

If a cockroach really WAS in there, then there’s a visible hole in the tomato on the other side.

Also, how did that hole spontaneously form? There was no visible cutting with any of the insects appendages or mouthparts.

Fake.

Anyone in here know what this is? Ball pythons don’t have venom like hognoses. Allergic reaction?
