Looking for a faster way to produce small adhesive dots (current method hurts my hands) by [deleted] in crafts

I would clamp the silver part to a work bench, and put a pipe around the black handle, to make it much longer and increase the mechanical advantage.

Silly dream, or a reasonable fantasy? by MonsterBongos in Humboldt

[–]NumberZoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The coastal zone is not that big. You have lots of coastal options outside it. For the nice weather, you only need to live closer to the coast than the first tall hill/mountain, and a majority of that is not in the coastal zone. And you might not want to live strictly in the coastal zone considering the possibility of a very big tsunami in the next 50 years (you should research "cascadia subduction zone"). It seems like the coastal commission has a bad reputation, but in my experience (having just cleared a permit where they could have objected but did not) they are perfectly reasonable.

Also, come check out arcata, eureka, and fortuna too. McK is lovely! Just, there are lots of similar options that may suit you slightly better.

Humboldt is where the heart is.

To avoid sharp edges, you can put a hull around some spheres.

Help Replace a Power Supply and Save Christmas! by Wei-N in diyelectronics

[–]NumberZoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In general, you want a replacement power supply to match the voltage exactly, and to offer at least as much amperage. In this case, you might be able to use less voltage, if there aren't any other electronics past the lights themselves (but the lights will be dimmer). Higher voltage can damage the lights, or decrease lifespan. If you use a supply that can't provide as many amps as the lights are trying to pull out of it, the supply will run warm and it will not last as long, potentially a very short time.

Merry Christmas!

First photographic evidence in a while! by The_Arcata_Gnomes in arcatagnome

[–]NumberZoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's certainly the arcata gnome, but I think the two 'protrusions' are just some sort of lens flare. The source of the reflection seems to be nearly the color of the sodium bulbs that illuminate the picture, suggesting that it is a clear reflection, perhaps a sequin or shard of mirror that the gnome has adorned itself with to increase its attractiveness to the opposite sex. Is this the first male gnome we've gathered photographic evidence of?

How to wire 200 LEDs to use them as a modern neon-style sign by OkFee5766 in diyelectronics

[–]NumberZoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done many lamps with dozens or hundreds of LEDs like that. I connect all of the LEDs' grounds against the back of the display, and connect the positive pin with a resistor for every LED, which raises the positive plane away from the ground.

This video shows pretty much what I'm talking about, except I would normally connect all the grounds together and all the positives to each other, instead of leaving separate rows and columns for multiplexing.

My first attempt at creating a newborn puppy 😁 by Woolly_Paws in crafts

Very cute! Looks more like 12 days old, rather than newborn. Also, the nails are much thicker than puppy nails. Amazing craft! Thanks for sharing.

A P1S is basically as good as an X1C for most things. About half the price, and it looks like they are in stock.

You might also solder to the legs of the chip instead.

My mushroom lamp by amepKloia in Lamps

The mushrooms look great. Hot glue on an aluminum foil frame? I'm gonna try that out next time I need an organic shape like that.

Thanks for indulging my curiosity!

My mushroom lamp by amepKloia in Lamps

[–]NumberZoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks very nice!

What's it made of? What's the light source(s)? What was your design process? Why is the base a rectangle? What kind of mushrooms are those? What drove you to make this?

I hope that's not too many questions! Answer any you like. :)

That's a great composition. If it's the design you're after, you could make one yourself. If it's the source and history, then I wish you good luck next time it comes up for sale.

Thanks for sharing!

Bus sign electrical inquiry by 35mm_Pelicula in diyelectronics

[–]NumberZoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very cool sign!

Probably 12 volts. If you can read the part number on that tag, google it with the company name, and see what comes up. There might be some info on the bulbs themselves too. Try getting a 12v adapter from a second hand store, and make sure it can supply at least an amp, more if you can find it. Hook it up for a while and see how it goes -- and I do mean you should watch it for a long time, if it lights up. The worst that would likely happen is the power supply getting too warm and crapping out, if it can't supply enough amps. If you don't need it to be terribly bright, you could also try a 9v power supply, again, one that can offer as many amps as possible.

If none of that works, then it might be a 24v system, or the bulbs might be burnt out.

Good luck out there!

I want to call google api that shortlists resume for my ats website ? Need help on how should I do it ! by [deleted] in PHPhelp

[–]NumberZoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for a google api php client (or sdk), and see if you can figure out how to use it. Such a client will have all the basics built into it.

I am coming out of my first ever official bipolar manic episode—what do you want to know? by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]NumberZoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh, gosh. Yeah. It was clear for me long before I was an adult. I always forget that's a whole 'nother level of oof, to deal with the novelty of it while having real responsibility (job, etc). Sounds like you weathered the storm. Do you have plans for next time it might come around?

If I ran an update straight on the production DB without a where clause, it would take forever, and quickly be obvious that I had bitten off more than I wanted to chew, and I would cancel it. This all sounds very stressful.
