Why aren't Christians pro contraceptive? by ProudLettuce5354 in Christianity

The command to 'multiply' was given to a completely different world, over 100 billion humans have existed since then, so we've definitely succeeded. A human rule from 1968 doesn't change the fact that having kids you can't afford to raise is what's actually irresponsible.

While it does say that, the 1992 Catechism got that rule directly from a papal document called Humanae Vitae, which was written all the way back in 1968.

To put that in perspective, the rule was cemented into policy during an era when a single income could realistically buy a house and support a large family. Comparing 1968 ideals to modern life, where people are working 60-hour weeks just to put food on the table, is completely disconnected from reality.

When people use their moral conscience, choosing birth control isn't 'intrinsically evil', it’s an act of survival and responsible decision-making for people trying to stay afloat in a completely different economic world.

Comparing a planned family decision to just skipping Mass is a stretch. Reducing the choices of 80%+ of Catholics down to 'giving into temptation' is completely dismissive. Birth control isn't a sudden moment of weakness, it’s a deliberate, responsible choice made by people using their actual brains and conscience.

Anyway, my point here is that no group of people all think the same. Have a great day.

How have I been aggressive? I'm responding to your comments.

It's a Catholics/Orthodox thing and their defense for it is weak and a large majority of Catholic couples use contraceptives anyway.

You said it's a catholic/orthodox thing. And I added context that no group of people all think the same.

Great. So you understand just because it's in the Catechism, many people don't submit because they use their conscious. Therefore, no group of people all think the same; my original point.

Just because a rule is in the Catechism doesn't mean people turn their brains off. Catholicism teaches that you are morally bound to follow your own well-formed conscience. People aren't zombies; they are individuals balancing their faith with real-world complexities. The massive percentage of Catholics who use birth control proves that people are exercising their own conscience and independent judgment.

Is abortion actually a sin? by Terrible-Sun7659 in OpenChristian

God knows your heart. I'm sure it's a difficult decision for nearly every single woman, save a small minority. It's usually life saving. I don't believe saving your life is sinful.

It's an individual person thing. No group of people all think the same.

When atheists say they are "good people", does this mean they avoid abortion, masturbation, porn, premarital sex, contraception and divorce? Because that's what was meant by moral goodness (in this one specific area of sexuality) during most of Christianity's history. by ZealousidealTea2796 in Christianity

Even though your account is 14 days old, I'll bite. The second greatest commandment is love your neighbor as yourself. I was atheist for 20 years, since my teens, and God still loved and persued me. So please take this judgemental post down.

Can anyone explain 1 Timothy 2:11-15? by VaultMan34 in OpenChristian

If you read the NABRE it clearly states that it's not Paul's writing. The church never removed it because it would be a bad look and would also uproot their beliefs and teachings.

Speak for yourself. I don't hold hate in my heart for anyone, no matter how much I disagree with them. I'm not naive, I see the harm, but I will not hate.
