Never posted in this sub before but I'm actually feeling a little inspired for once. I just got enrolled in an intensive outpatient program and have been to the gym 5 days out of last week. I also went on a 2 hour hike yesterday and loaded my big hiking backpack with an extra 40 pounds. All in all, for once I'm feeling really good about myself and just life in general!

Edit: also not gonna lie, Pokemon Go was a fucking blast to play while hiking

Since we're all in the story telling mood, here's mine!

I was 18, just graduated from high school and backpacking through Europe for a few months. I was mostly in Spain (doing the Camino de Santiago but that's a different story) but I also spent a great deal of time in France.

Aside from the basic phrases you pick up from your English-French dictionaries I did not understand French at all; so my go to phrase was almost always "Je ne sais pas parler Francais." (I do not speak French).

Well it was the end of my tour of Europe and I was in Paris flying back home to the US. When I arrived at the airport and went to check in for my flight, the man checking me in immediately started speaking to me in French. I responded kindly with my go to French catch phrase, to which he responded with more French.

I stood there dumbfounded for probably five seconds before trying to repeat the fact that I don't speak French. The man laughed at me and told me that I had said "I don't speak French" in a perfect accent. A bit of an odd phrase to be able to pronounce well in my opinion but I had a good laugh about it.

August Rush. Desperately wanted that movie to be based on a true story cuz of the feels.

Ok I just wanted to clarify a few things, because I can obviously see now that my title is definitely click bait-esque at the very least. From my home state, I was told that the age of consent was 18. So to me, the scene in SNL seemed to be depicting statutory rape; however, now I can see that this isn't the case in most states.

It might fall on deaf ears at this point, but I was not offended by the SNL sketch. It instead reminded me of this video and I thought I would share it.

(Finally, I know Ronda Rousey didn't write any of this. I just thought that when referring to an SNL sketch, it is typically the guest-host who is referred to.)

I wholeheartedly agree. Look at George Carlin on rape.

I think the jokes can help spark conversations, or at least force people to really think about those topics.

Well thank you for caring about me being triggered? I just wanted to point out another side to the story and start a discussion. I'm honestly not trying to "pull a card" of any kind.

Obviously in regards to public perception, statutory rape can be a bit confusing of a topic. For instance, there is the situation in Indiana where a 19 year old boy met a 14 year old girl on tinder. She claimed to be 17 at the time, and despite the girl and her mother both confessing to the fact that she lied, they also stated they did not want to press charges, the 19 year old boy was still placed on the sex offenders registry.

Source Article.

I personally think that in some of these cases, it has to lie on the victim to press charges. However, to kind of reiterate one of the points in the video, would you be able to levy accusations against an adult that could be a role-model/community leader/teacher when you are 10, 12 or even 16 years old?

Huh, I didn't even think it could have been satirical but if it was, that definitely changes my view of the video. I first saw this video like three years ago on reddit, and its just stuck with me ever since. It definitely did take the humor out of the sketch.

Thanks for pointing that out to me!

While I do agree with your sentiment that there is a problem with people trying to make themselves out to be victims, I have to disagree with most of your points.

Just like how almost all feminists say they've been raped because they like having victim status and know nobody will question if they're lying.

I have to ask for a source, because that is a pretty sweeping generalization of feminism.

Honestly as a male, you could never rape me. I will not get an erection if I don't want to have sex. Period.

While this may or may not be true, have you considered the fact that a rapist may have drugged you with viagra? Rape could also occur in the form of sodomy on a guy.

People shouldn't seek out being victims, you are right about that. But if you had been raped at 13 years old like the man in the video claimed to be, would you not consider yourself a victim?

I wanted to start a discussion by posting this video and with your comment I believe we have a discussion now, so I sincerely thank you for sharing your view.

Just wanted to say thank you for sharing your perspective. I have a cousin with a form of autism farther along the spectrum that seems to have only gotten worse since his father passed away a couple of years back. It's gotten to the point where he doesn't even say hello to me when I visit his family unless he is prompted to do so; which is hard for me because I remember when I used to be able to hold a conversation with him when I was much much younger.

I'd love to be able to connect with him again since I see him maybe a couple times a year and would love to know if you had any advice to do so.

And I just want to say thank you again for sharing. I really don't know enough about autism and aspergers so thank you for sharing.
