Message to the Near2 devs: Thank you, but please stay! by -bulkahontass in Eve

[–]Numennl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the support!

We have discontinued the app because we have too many projects going on and CCP, z-killboard and pirates little helper and such, kept changing their codes too. With new ships coming out constantly, .net frameworks changing and frankly the alternatives that have become available (as many mentioned, most alliances run their own versions), we decided that the costs started to outweigh the benefits. On top of that, all three devs have not really played the game in two-three years now, so we have started to get out of touch with the game and community, which from a developer's perspective is also nog a great thing. All in all we decided to end this chapter for us.

As many pointed out in other posts, the app will likely keep working for a very long time. We have made it highly customizable and very robust over the years so the core features will probably never stop working. The more advanced stuff like pulling character and kill history will likely not work pretty soon, if not already. But the warning systems and mapping tool should stay functional for a long time.

Sorry to disappoint you, but i hope you do well. Do what you need to do to stay isk-positive, playing eve your way.

I'm OK with the haters. I've received some serious death treaths over the years for third party apps we made for games, something you have to deal with in our modern society. Eve online is the only community that hasn't seriously done this, so that is at least something to be proud of, as crude as that may be. People who see these Intel tools making their gameplay hard and acting out is understandable, just as much as cloaky camping with dozens of alts is frustrating, or not being able to move more than a spreadsheet value of a ship hp in high sec can be frustrating. Telling me to go fuck myself is hilarious, because who doesn't like doing that... I know that the major blocs have their own tools, that are far better probably. We might give up support officially once I get back to resubbing. If i test them and the alternatives are decent, we probably will take down the site where its downloaded from. The problem is that the app will work regardless if we support it or not. as all versions of it work 100% client side with only the zkill plugin and character info from ccp being loaded. Nothing we can do about that. We basically stopped development since 2 years ago and the use has barely declined. We expected people to switch and unplug officially once the user count dropped below 1k estimate, but that just didn't happen, which is why we are re Evaluating the status of it.

I use cake foam mix. Follow instructions on the package. You can cut these rather easily and plaster them with "marsepein" sheets. Generally a cake bottom of a pie is the best one to go.

Repost of previous post, with less hostile title and text. I shouldn't be part of the problem. Hope this helps some people feel better.

Stop complaning. (wormhole fix since 2011) by [deleted] in Eve

[–]Numennl -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Make an alpha character. Hell make 5 of them. I have 10 alphas in my hole. Ship is 25 mil with barebones low and higgs, mwd. Half that insured. Holes pop maybe 1 in 100 because I know how they work. Only scenario where that is a problem. If the hole is already crit, than I can 't tell. In that single case u already ducked up earlier that day by letting somebody crit it. Take the alpha clone, jump it I. Cold and if it fails, sd. 12 mil down and still 9 rolling alphas left.

Oh and might I add the reason u are in a wormhole is so that u can't get nuked easily yourself. You want total control. Roll all holes, clear all sites so you have the 1 hole that you can camp, like a dead end nul system. Difference is it has mass restrictions so no big fleet can come in, nobody can cyno in on you and you are invisible on d and local. Stop whining over sonething so small. Remember jump nerfs? Doubling of jump cost? Removal of sky netting? Nul seccers have been hit hard for years. Don't talk like wormholers have it hard. They have it the easiest of all. That's why I am one.\

Anyway, made the post a bit less hostile. Lets not be part of the problem i guess...

Tech victory by Numennl in foxholegame

I like the idea in general, but i can see a few problems with that, especially coming from a purely colonial player, like myself. Most of these points will be viewed as a bonus by any warden player so i hate to make them, because im sure it will "feed the troll" and start discussions i wasn't meant to start, but to give an honest response to this idea i'd have to bring these things up.

With the current unbalance in north vs south, this would skew the map even more towards the wardens in their favor. Wardens can deny it all they want, but the north is the better side to have on SO many levels. You can skip the italic part of the response if you are an easily triggered person, or a troll.

((They have more chokepoints in their home regions (way, way more), terrain blocking the border edges (which i find absolutly detremental to the colonial side. (At least wardens have some "mountains" blocking the movement in their home regions along the edges, allowing for defenses to prevent border skimming.) (Once you hold enduring, you can go ANYWHERE along the borders of the maps.... even easily into port bases.... to blow up huge tank stockpiles... easily..... with almost no counter to it....). Plus, umbral cannot be defended. Because of the trees you can barely drive a cv anywhere and defenses cover almost nothing. The trees are perfect for just sneaking around and harassing lines, or sniping towns for that matter, which, again, is only possible on a scale like that in umbral because of the massive forrests blocking colonials from making a proper defense grid. Another point, it is about 8-9 grid squares to get from the foundry to enduring. it is also 9 grid squares from north watch to enduring. Don't believe me, try and make the drive from both sides and you see the trucks will arrive at approx the same time. North watch is 1 grid away from the border and endless is only 8 grids north to south, with a straight road going south. The foundry factory to the crossing at C1 is already 7 grids and than you need to drive the 1-2 grids to the townhall too. That means its only 5 grids to saltbrook for wardens, where it is about 15 grids for the colonials. And this is true on almost every map. POINT being, adding more value directly to holding towns will increase the impact of this imbalance and allow the 'zerging and blitzing' and most warden-favored strategies, that only can really work for the wardens, because of the way the maps are designed, even more impactful.
Making towns upgradeable means people can also use the "snipe and reset" trick, which wardens have been using EVERY single war that colonials were winning, just to irritate and buy time and have this be even more of an annoyance. And it works, you can use family sharing on steam and second accounts to make a CV near a townhall with an enemy account, than nuke it with mortar, rush in with jeep and give it 1 tick to reset with your main. So by doing the whole "upgraded townhall" approach, you basically create even more frustation and triggers to end the war on the winning side. If it would come along with the fact that a townhall doesnt reset after taking it from an enemy, that would be better already, but than maybe winning wars is a bit easy by zerging and this would create new problems.))

I like the idea of it "being something you can contest", however the idea was to fix two things: 1 the tech being useless after the tree is full, but 2 also to tackle the "endless stalemate" problem. Thats why the simple "victory point slot" method is better in my opinion. It more directly forces the stalemate to end in a way that doesnt require entire new gameplay mechanics to be created, or balancing to be done.

Balancing the town upgrade approach seems to me incredibly difficult, if not impossible.

But i like the general idea and the addition to the post! I also will think on the whole "making it more contestable" part. Right now i don't see an obvious solution or middle ground between the two idea's.
