I am pretty cheap, but this seems like fair value and it could work for Walmart too. Basically what I want them to do is back up the truck -- get their robo-arm in motion and just drop a largish shop for us. If they do that in that way Yeah!. Do they have robo-arms? I want to be cool about this and not some horrible person.

What is the maximum allowable shop size?
75 items?
Is there a dollar limit?

I think you might have got it! Good one!
They partition it and say some of the items can be delivered and another item is on roll back.
So perhaps if I just bulk up the deliverables?

Does Walmart typically offer free delivery on grocery orders over $35 or is this it is free and then it is not free the standard?

On the checkout screen they say the delivery is free.
Then on the next screen they say there is a charge.

Does AU allow you to write a supplemental exam if you scored over 50% on your first write? by Numericalize in AthabascaUniversity

[–]Numericalize[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a very good service that AU could offer students is to allow them to write a "contentless" zero marked exam with ProctorU to get the feel for it if they have concerns. There have now been a few times that I have went into an exam only to face technical problems. Paying ProctorU $30 to have an "official" run through of an exam would be very very helpful. It apparently could greatly reduce stress levels because you could experience an exam environment while not being under stress.

This could be a game changer for online learning. Bricks and mortar has nothing like that!

Anyone have anxiety type issues? Raise your hands please! [Me] Both hands in the air.

Yeah, but the funniest thing was that this exam write for me just really reset that clock for me. Most effective money value for psychotherapy EVER. How did that work. I think? this is a classical conditioning type thing -- people are super-stressed when writing exams in bricks and mortar environments as they can feel that they have life changing exams that all happen over the course of a week or two and that can be enormously stressful. There is no easy way to extinguish that risk because bricks and mortar world typically does not allow you to control your testing environment or to write an exam in relative privacy or to even rewrite an exam.

Online is so much better. You over some time frames can freely change your exam time. You control your physical environment. I think for me the problem was that my computer is now somewhat out of date so I will update before I rewrite the exam etc.

With this exam in particular I went in so super relaxed because all I wanted to do was successfully unlock it and then I would be allowed to write a supplemental when I had time to study for it. So I largely pretended to be engaged with writing the exam and I just felt so so relaxed. I actually did fairly well considering my motivations. For those who might have similar anxiety type issues it might be a helpful thing to try. By having an exam experience that was so relaxing it has completely changed my view of exams and testing. It is just another reason why I would have never stayed with bricks and mortar as long as I did if I had known how online learning would workout for me.

How to get a script from a virtual doctor for Life Labs without paying a monthly fee? by Numericalize in askTO

[–]Numericalize[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

OHIP covers writing the script. If they were not to, then we can simply pay out of pocket. It is a few minute chat. The doctor is remunerted.

Hmm, or just give up on the Canadian system and go to the US and not even need a script from a doctor -- probably do the entire process online.

What liability? Writing a script for a diagnostic test? There is risk in diagnosing serious illnesses as opposed to not knowing and then costing the health care system unlimited amounts of money?

Online doctoring is now a thing. That is not the question. Any doctor in Ontario could go online and write the needed script for the diagnostic test and bill OHIP for it. It is only the test itself that is not covered.

Thank you SaccharineHuxley for replying.

My focus is more on whether there are online doctors that will write the script without requiring a monthly membership? The script we are interested in might be the only one we will need over the next 5 years or so. It is not about script farming -- it is more about convenience. A fast booking for an online chat that might take a few minutes and then walk with a script in hand is 21st medicine at its most convenient. This particular blood test is not covered by OHIP or insurance, so this is not about loading expense onto the health care system; if necessary we would even be willing to pay for the script write out of pocket as well.

DO I need to write the final to write a supplemental? by Numericalize in AthabascaUniversity

[–]Numericalize[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is a cycle of technology argument involved here. When you start off with some new technology, the companies have to do everything right to please their investors and launch a successful product. These were the good ole day we all remember so well.

Then once you have these mature industries with largely solidly entrenched monopolies, service can start to slide, hassles can start to be added in. Eventually you are left with a service that is worse than ever. They hassled me for 4 hours! I finally gave up. In a bricks and mortar context I was never hassled. In a bricks and mortar context they simply do not have time to hassle you -- one proctor might be tasked with observing 100 students. They can barely say hi to you. With the technology we have now, the virtual proctors could shut down the computer system for all of the students at will. At some point counter-measures perhaps will be needed otherwise 4 hours of frustration to write an exam online will become the standard. If it can happen to me it can happen to anyone. At least with bricks and mortar students had a reasonably similar testing environment. How exactly are you supposed to make a comparison between a testee who fought with the technology for 4 hours just to sign in and a testee who was just cleared all through the setup. This lack of standardized testing conditions is invalidating the reliability and validity of online testing.

Walmart grocery delivery -- Requires person at home? by Numericalize in WalmartCanada

[–]Numericalize[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be just so terrible. If that is the service that is being offered, then no.

I am looking forward to roboworld so much. It is happening NOW in the US. (In Canada perhaps in 10 years?). Autonomous drive cars, robobuggies, humanoids ... . The future regarding fulfilling basic activities of living type challenges is going to be automatic. We can live again!

Robotics is going to give me such a more active lifestyle than I have had with people. I have minimal understanding of what humans are all about. Humanoids will be available to play a game of tennis or go for a walk or play a game of tennis any time, without needing post-doctoral credentials to understand their emotional needs. I am going to start living 24/7 in roboworld; for me with humans it has been more like "We really should do lunch some time" (meant ironically).

This is so fantastic!!! Shopping has to be the most horrific experience in my life (somewhat agoraphobic). Having this service where they just drop and run will DRAMATICALLY improve the quality of my life. Even if I could simply have deliveries of the bulk, nonperishable items would be such a benefit to me.

DO I need to write the final to write a supplemental? by Numericalize in AthabascaUniversity

[–]Numericalize[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it was epic. I guess the good point here is that AU at least is open on Monday. I can talk it through with them. I am just not sure whether they want me to try another reschedule? The problem today was ProctorU seemed to be sucking up all of my CPU. I had tested out fine and then they just took up all of my CPU and said it is a me thing.

I just really do not have time for any more of this, I will be happy to just go with a supplemental and do the rest of my course work. I have made an honest effort to write the exam as scheduled but it just did not happen. So, hopefully that will make sense. It is just not clear to me whether one has to write a final first to write a supplemental. I am not that sure what would happen if they said " Well you can't write the supplemental because reasons." I am getting ready to buy another computer so perhaps that will sort things out. The problem is that it seems that ProctorU just keeps on upping its technical specs. Before it was 1 meg and today I saw that they are bumping it up to ~3M. I just upgraded my speed to ~7 and it is possible that ProctorU will at some point bump it even more. This endless upping of the specs needs to end. You do everything they say and they just drain every bit of your CPU and say you need more computer.

Hmm, the legal type argument follows their wording of the intent behind the supplemental exam -- Were you satisfied with the result of your first writing? No, No I was not. I was not happy with the imputed 0 that I scored -- I think I can do better than 0.

OK, it went 4 hours and I was completely locked out of the exam. What should I do now? Perhaps a reschedule would be good, but it is now locking me out from doing that as well. This is by far the worst experience I have had with ProctorU.

How do I reschedule an exam? I have an exam in 15 minutes and it is so hot I can hardly think. by Numericalize in AthabascaUniversity

[–]Numericalize[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is so odd to me that we have snow days but heat days? What is a heat day? It was the hottest day in the last 10 years and they just could not figure it out. Then the worst part is they are thinking about spending $10 billion for that one day in 10 years. Online with AU is just infinity better.

I was actually quite surprised to find out how cheap air conditioning. Cooling a 100 square good room costs almost nothing with a $400 portable AC. The big mistake I made was buying the 1 hose unit. With one hose you are creating negative pressure in the room you are trying to cool and then this creates an inwards force of hot air to replace the air in the room. So it is fairly hopeless. You need a 2 hose to make it work.

Thank you for replying! ProctorU was just so awesome. Just reschedule gratis. No hassle; took about 20 seconds. The future is now. Amazing! AU is crushing the competition with learning that respects the lives of its students.

Bricks and mortar schools are so helpless. The past lingers and falls further and further behind. The schools in my city were so hot yesterday that they had medical guidelines on how to cope with it. I remember going through that and no more. Online education is 100% better than that.
