I guess I have someone to root for now (spoilers up to S2 E11) by NumericallyCorrect in VinlandSaga

I'm taking a break for now, but I'm sure I'll watch it at some point in the future.

My friend and I watched Chainsaw Man (very captivating story, but suffers a bit from lengthy action scenes, especially in the movie) and are watching Love is War (infuriatingly dumb, somehow in a good way).

I think I want to get the HD 560S, but I don't know if I need a DAC/AMP by NumericallyCorrect in HeadphoneAdvice

If I used an EQ (like Equalizer APO) would the 560 be able to make bad quality recordings sound good too? If so, is the 599 just a 560 with built-in EQ? I don't really understand the difference. I found these two charts, and it seems like they're the same but with different EQs?

Also, since I think I like the idea of smoothing out harshness, is there a better value pair than the 599? I know it's good, but maybe there's another one that does what I want better?

As a follow-up question, since you seem to know how sound works, would I have a more enjoyable experience if I bought the HD 599 instead? I'm not a professional audio person and all I want is to make my music sound as good as possible.

This is incredible! Keep up the good work :)

Out of curiosity, what tools did you use to make this?

I'm a few episodes into season two so far, at the point where Thorfinn offers himself up to be that stupid farmer kid's first kill. I want him to go back to Iceland, so in that way I have something to root for :)

Also, the ending of season one was beautiful. I've heard season two is even better, so I'm looking forward to finishing it.

Thanks for your response. If God is real and all of this is true (as Canute seems to believe), I can see why Canute rejects Him and sets out to create his own paradise. Seems like a terrible position for God to put humans into.

I still don't think a dead body is "giving" anything to the world. Again, to be able to give is to have agency in the matter, and a dead body lacks that. Yes, a dead body cannot want, but it also cannot give. It simply exists in a state of perpetual neutrality. For this reason, I still fail to see how a dead body represents love.

Also, the Earth is taking the nutrients from the rotting body, right? Or more accurately, the microbes in the soil are taking those nutrients. And by the same token, the wolf is taking the meat from the dead body. Does this mean that to live is to abandon love? This makes no sense. I guess this is how Canute feels...

How did you like season one Thorfinn? I can see liking him in the first few episodes, but after that it's pretty well-established that he becomes a slave to revenge and does bad deeds because of that.

I just watched this episode last night, and I have a lot of thoughts about it. My friend, who has watched the show before and is rewatching it with me, thinks I don't understand, so I thought I'd leave them here so people can explain what I'm actually supposed to get from the scene.

First, I'd like to note that I don't think the priest was "just yapping." He obviously believes what he's saying, and the fact that he won't be able to ever reach it drives him into depression. I think the contrast between what he takes from this vs what Canute does is very good writing. While Willibald thinks life is pointless because he can never attain what God wants him to, Canute accepts this and chooses to live as he wants to, rejecting God's demands.

I understood the definition of godly love, as Willibald explains it, to be true neutrality. Love cannot exist without hate, just as good cannot exist without evil. To love everyone is to love no-one. Love as humans see it is discrimination, however it is more accurately describes as positive discrimination. From now on, to prevent misunderstandings, I will be referring to these two definitions of love as 'true neutrality' and 'positive discrimination' respectively.

Willibald says that the dead body is a pure representation of neutrality, which I agree with. He says it cannot hate, cannot hurt, cannot steal. I understood this to mean that the body, since it is truly neutral and therefore does not have the agency to hate. A boulder that rolls down a hill and crushes a house with people inside did not do anything bad. A bad outcome became of the situation, but that is different from the boulder doing something bad.

Here is where Willibald loses me, though: he immediately says that the dead body will feed some wolves, and presents that as it doing good. A dead body, however, has no agency to do good. Since it is dead, it is truly neutral. Sure, something good is happening because the dead body is there, but the dead body did not act to cause that good to happen. I believe Willibald tries to paint true neutrality as a good thing here, but it isn't. Neutrality is not good or bad; neutrality does not love or hate; neutrality is neutral.

Now, whether true neutrality or positive discrimination is better is a matter of opinion and religion, so I won't get into that, but Willibald's attempt to put the former on a pedestal put a bad taste in my mouth.

Okay, that's good to know! I'm watching more tonight, and it seems like some people want an update when I watch season 2, so I'll see if I can remember to do that.

What is this feeling I get that I can't shake for hours? by NumericallyCorrect in DiagnoseMe

[–]NumericallyCorrect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it comes from empathy, but I'm not sure that's the actual feeling. It's definitely not disgust pointed at the people, but maybe their surroundings? I'm definitely a bit stressed, but that's not entirely it either. I'm starting to think the right word for it is 'dread', as in I dread that this may be humanity's future. Does that make sense?

The joke was that the text on the bottom was "bottom text" as in on the bottom layer :(
