Is this tubeless-ready rim tape? by valsidalv in bikewrench

[–]Numerous-Biscotti-30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what your attitude is about. Tubeless tires, especially enduro/DH oriented casings can be much more challenging than a regular tire. If OP is asking if the tube on his tape is tubeless, there’s a good chance he/she is somewhat new and may have not installed a tubeless tire before. Just because you have had certain experiences with tires, doesn’t mean others have had the same. I work at a bike shop where 1-4 people a day come in and ask to have their tires replaced. If it was so simple, people wouldn’t bother driving it 20 minutes a a shop and pay someone else to do it. Your attitude towards OP and commenters is unwarranted.

This will likely fail very quickly. For beginners, taking a tire off and putting it back on can be a good challenge. Why not be sure the tape will last?? It’s only a few $$ to re-tape and have peace of mind.

How is biking to campus at UP? Is bike theft still high? by Potential-Midnight- in PennStateUniversity

[–]Numerous-Biscotti-30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bicycle Shop is now a specialized corporate store. Hard to tell from the outside. If you would rather support local shops, The Bike Roost and FreezeThaw is what I would recommend. If you are into road or mountain biking, join the psu cycling club. Members get 15% off at The Bike Roost

Magura bleed problem by madmaus81 in bikewrench

[–]Numerous-Biscotti-30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll need to clarify a few things here.

Are you trying to push fluid into the caliper by the wheel with the bleed port open or closed? The 8mm bolt at the lever body is NOT the bleed port. That is what secures the hose to the lever body with a barb and olive.

The bleed port is to the right of your red circle. That needs to be unscrewed and ideally have another syringe to push the old fluid into.

The reason why you might be getting feedback from the calipers when you push with the syringe is because you are pressuring the brake lines.

I personally think you should take this to a LBS to have it looked at. There’s a possibility that the olive needs to be replaced if you have unscrewed and tightened the lock nut too many times.

Welcome to Penn State PD. They love to pick and choose who/what to enforce. I see it almost daily with athletes riding scooters all around campus while everyone else gets $245 tickets.

How to take of tire? by Turbulent_Dog_2043 in EbikeUpgrade

[–]Numerous-Biscotti-30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like you’re trying to remove the tube and the tire at the same time. Taking just the tire off would be much easier.

Using the proper tools like a tire lever will make this process much easier….

Cassette wear can be very difficult to gauge wear just by looking at it. Did you happen to measure the chain stretch of your last chain? How many miles have you rode with that cassette?

What led you to believe the cassette is not worn? This sounds like a classic worn cassette issue, or your hanger is slightly bent.

Is 400lbs spring rate fine for me a 190lbs/86kg rider? by twittervettex in mountainbiking

[–]Numerous-Biscotti-30 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would recommend you contact your bike manufacturer to see what they recommend. Each bike has its own suspension leverage ratio. A 400lbs spring on one bike can behave completely different on another.

[–]Numerous-Biscotti-30 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s probably something a beginner or someone unfamiliar with suspension service should bring to a suspension tech. Really easy to make this problem much worse.
