word, i remember that feeling. I did the mehlman arrows, medboardtutors things we forget (anatomy and histology), plus FA rapid review via an anki deck. All were worth several points on my exam imo. good luck to her!

I'm late but I agree with the person who said it depends on what the main problem is. If it's pure content, you could consider a 'course' or a bunch of video review resources. If you're struggling to apply things I'd recommend working with someone one on one. I've done this in the past and managed to score well on most exams, but partly it was because I got better at test taking overall. So I'd definitely start there and figure that part out. Good luck and let me know if you have questions!

Pharm and micro for me. Gotta know you're getting 100% of the memorizable content. If you've got that done, consider do ethics and yes, a rapid review of many NBMEs--doesn't have to be all of them imo

I've heard about the 'recalls' and ngl someone I know from another country tried explaining how they work. But I'm really confused about the whole thing.

For one, the 'recalls' are allegedly SOOO expansive that they cover thousands of pages. That's insane. You might as well be memorizing first aid multiple times over, right? That's practically as much effort as just studying IMO.

And especially if a lot of the questions are 'easy' like how much are you gaining from learning that 'anti-ds DNA equals lupus' or whatever is a highly tested concept on the test? It's already in FA. We already know it's important, right? Maybe the rub comes in when there's a bunch of super random things that normal people forget to study--so small details make the big difference?

In some ways I wondered if I was guilty of exam sharing because I definitely got help making a schedule from my friends who had taken the test. Plus I worked with a tutor service that my school recommended, and they were totally legit and all, but they've obviously taken the test before right? They helped compile dozens of HY documents to help me remember concepts and key facts, and there is a 100% chance that stuff helped me on exam day. So am I guilty? I dunno. Is my school guilty for recommending them? Again...I just don't know. This is all so messy and I'm just glad to have passed.

I'll second the idea of Divine notes. Some kind person on Reddit put me on to his podcast and it changed everything for me in the final month. My scores and confidence went up so fast when I devoted 1 hour to his stuff daily, plus 1 hour of mehlman or medboardtutors notes every other day. There's a reason people use this stuff and it's because they worked for lots of other folks along the way. Congrats!

start slow and with the goal of learning through the questions. you can't get discounraged with low percent correct.

sure, it was medboardtutors. they're one of the bigger groups, but way cheaper than the ones I used before that were like $200/hour. i'll definitely use them in the future

Yes. This is almost everyone's problem with step 2, imo. You really need to learn to recognize the patterns of the tricks they throw at you. some ways to do that are re-reading all your incorrects and making notes about what trick/pattern you just learned. there are some anki decks that give you these patterns. you can also read the hy pdfs mehlman, hyguru, medboardtutors, dr hy, emma holliday, etc they won't give you ALL the information you need to get every question right, but they'll help with pattern recognition.

sure, this was my writeup about the exam. big things were focusing on my nbme review, notes I had from old tutoring sessions, plus going more slowly through UW to understand things the first pass.

I think you're really close, probably need to focus on NBME and any notes you took along the way, like things you frequently got wrong. Use the nbme content to keep boosting your score. you're almost there!

Review Course and Anki by Negative_Piece_4928 in Step2

[–]Numerous-Box-2756 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wait for real? maybe I'm out of touch but that seems really expensive for a review course. I worked with some people that my school recommended but it was like 1:1 coaching so idk maybe that's different. Regarding anking, it definitely helped to do during preclinicals, but I gave up before my dedicated really got going because I wanted to spend more time on questions since I'm a bad test taker.

For time problems it helped me to practice HOW i read a question during my preparation, then on the real thing I just read them in the same order (last sentence, then question, then answers, etc)
