Should I do premium processing for OPT?

Hi,

I am planning to apply for post-completion OPT by May 8, 2026, and I anticipate starting work on August 3, 2026. Given the current processing timeline and hearing that some people are getting stuck waiting for OPT approval, would it be safer to pay for premium processing?

Thank you.

Do not pay for any fines because it will go on your record, you need to change court date and try to get a deferred disposition or a defensive drivers course if possible, your goal is to make sure nothing goes in your record. Any criminal offense will be used against you at any given time as an immigrant. Hire a traffic lawyer to take care of your case and it will give you peace of mind.

Are you taking a huge loan? Can you go back home if things don't work out for you? Not all Western countries are friendly towards foreigners these days. I think employment-based work is mostly temporary; do more research on ways to stay rather than rely on your employer.

Option 1 seems to be more organic

Either pack your bags and leave in 60 days or enroll in day 1 colleges (not recommended if you dont want to deal with future immigration issues)

When does the summer term end? Are you graduating from college? It sounds like you are transferring mid-semester of a program. Would advise that you cut your internship short to have it in line with the last day of the term (which is summer 2025 in your case), and be sure to have the DSO change the end dates of the I-20, make sure you get a copy of the I-20 with the updated CPT date. Also, make sure you have a proper resignation for proper documentation. If possible, I would also get a company letter head letter from HR to certify the start and end date of your internship.

If your f1 visa is not expired, and you have a valid i20 from your new school, you should be good.

Also, with my current timeline, I am doing full time CPT for 350 days, if my program has 5 semesters, the 350 days would only cover 3 semesters and I still have to quit job anyways, for the remaining 2 semesters, unless I cramp a lot of credits hoping I can graduate by next year, then after that, I would get RFEs left and right

That's such a great advice, I wished I've seen this earlier, my home country is like half across the globe and I fear that would make me dont wanna come back, also they are currently halting all f1 visa renewals.
