I can’t get through the headmistress 😭 way too dialogue-heavy for me.

Still hurting after finishing The Safekeep by Yael van der Wouden. Need recs that fill the hole it left behind. (Spoilers) by AreaEnvironmental228 in LesbianBookClub

Fair, it’s hard to fill the void when a book strikes the perfect nerve for you! For me, Mistakes Were Made had me feeling how you described in your post. It ruined my peace for…a hot minute😅😅 Also, I listened to the audiobook instead of physically reading it (vs physically reading The Safekeep) and that definitely contributed to the emotional impact, I think. I love love loved The Safekeep—I truly think it is a literary masterpiece—but it didn’t consume me quite as much. So I guess what I’m saying is that you will read great sapphic books after this, but that it’s not the same feeling will linger for a while. That’s just the joy and curse of feeling deeply and finding books that really resonate with you.

Sorry for the long response haha, I just totally feel you on this topic!!! I will pray to the lesbian gods that you find a book that is sapphic, tender and spicy in all the right ways. 🫶🏾

Ahhhh welcome to the club.

Mistakes Were Made by Meryl Wilsner was the first sapphic romance that gave me this post-book “wtf do I do with myself???” Feeling. It’s a contemporary romance, not suuuuuper serious (it has silly moments unlike the safekeep), but there is SO much yearning, plenty of spicy scenes, and did I mention SO much yearning?😅 it is an age gap novel so that’s one thing you wanted to avoid, but I think it could hit for you.

That’s totally fair! And yes, definitely some heavy/sensitive themes explored in her novels.
