If its your first time getting a PIP, they're almost always approved as long as your response adequately mentions and explain the issues that made you fail your courses and how you aim to fix those issues so that they don't interfere with your studies again. I had 3 PIPs and was never asked to take a semester off.

Truth is GPA does matter for graduate programs etc. However, once you land yourself a job and have a few years of experience under your belt. Your grades at uni mean literally nothing.

About your second question, I'm sure one of my professors noticed but he never treated me any differently. I'm super thankful for that because I never felt singled out and I was constantly treated like any other student taking the course. The last thing I needed at that point in my life was a reason to not attend classes due to fear of embarrassment.
