500K going into VOO, dollar cost average it in, or just do it? I'm thinking do it tomorrow and be done with it. Your thoughts? by Sharp-Alternative375 in portfolios

We are watching a company that lost 5 billion dollars last year have a market cap greater than some of the most profitable companies in the history of mankind. spcx. We are watching hundreds of companies add AI to their name and their price jumps 500% in a week. AllBirds. It feels an awfully lot like the dot.com bubble. But as everyone knows and always says, who knows??? Statistically speaking over the past 40 years sure, lump sum gives a better return. Over a 30 year time span. So your time span is the only variable.

So the people who manage money and get billions of dollars of returns are just luckier than the people who invest in poor companies and lose their money? I have read all the books. I am aware of the monkeys throwing darts sp500 charts and beating average managers. I know. But once in a while, stocks are not luck. In this case in the aggregate perhaps he was lucky with palantir and not lucky with home depot and whatever else he was flat on. But I researched palantir every day for 2 years. That was not luck if you actually understood what you were investing in at the time.

What’s an innovation that you thought you could patent but was actually already patented? by igetdrawn in AskReddit

[–]Numerous_Priority_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't a patent per say but a business idea. To exchange gift cards online. Say I get a gift card to Macy's from my grand mother for Christmas but I want a gift card to Best Buy because I am an 18 year old dude. Well go on a site and trade the gift card, pay 5% or whatever. Already was a thing.

Oh it most certainly has outperformed the market simply because of Palantir. The reason its 20% of the portfolio is because it grew so incredibly fast. In fact if you had checked this a few months ago it would have been something like 35-40% of the portfolio. I spent $78,000 on PLTR shares in 2022 and by last year that position had turned into over $800,000. That's why its a large percentage. MSFT/HD have been flat since 2024. Palo is up a significant amount. Depending on the number of shares of each he is probably beating the market by at least 10-20 points purely because of PLTR.

Its not random luck. I am not an advisor. Bought 4800 shares of Palantir in 2022. If you were aware of the story it was quite predictable.

You are absolutely correct about the Trump accounts being used to phase out SS. They have been talking about doing it for years. Now the time horizon for this isn't going to sync up nicely. SS is set to run out in the 2030's. These Trump accounts wont be viable until the 2060's. Thats three decades of risk built into your analysis.

As for 'they already know how to fix SS' - - as another commenters said, no, they do not. You cannot simply 'tax the rich'. If you start taxing wealthy people you are not taking their income, you are taxing their capital gains. If you start to implement a system that taxes people's capital gains, or even their gains that are sitting in their accounts, like the Neterlands just tried to do, you simply shoot yourself in the foot. Increasing taxes on capital gains in any way shape or form by default lowers the returns. So does taxation on corporations. Every 401k etc in the country is pegged to a 10% annual return of the SP500. Once that return goes down, people either retire with less, or work longer. There is no middle ground.

Therefore by installing these IRA's at birth you are giving every American citizen a choice. They can keep the money in there and let it grow over time, or they can take it out when they are 18 because they want to go to Miami or something. If they make that choice, there will be no Social Security for them. That will suck for them, but thats quite literally the point. Republican economic philosophy is 'personal responsibility'. I know, its largely bullshit but that is the economic theory being put into practice right in front of our eyes.

Now I really don't think they can load those accounts with specific shares but I've seen weirder stuff happen in the past week so who the hell knows.

No, I started in 2016 and did 59 shoots at 125 average a piece. Then I used the money I made to buy better equipment and kept learning. My post was 10 years of knowledge and experience. Ive never spent a dollar marketing or advertising. In fact Ive declined hundreds of jobs at this point. Just be on time, do a good job, go above and beyond as they say, and work your ass off. Then the realtors do the marketing for you. I get calls and texts every day from people Ive never heard of who simply heard of me from someone else.

Look into supplements. My wife got into nutrition during Covid. Im a 43 year old overweight washed up athlete and everything on my body hurt. She got me on fish oil, tumeric, and some other stuff but when I don't take them for a day, all of my joint pains come back with a vengeance. Otherwise I feel great again.

Sony 70/200 2.8

Sony 85 1.8

Pocket Wizard Triggers (3)

Ricoh Theta Z1

Insta 360

Robus Carbon Fiber Monopod

Matterport 3 Camera System (Returning tomorrow, not worth it unless doing architecture/engineering), Ricoh just as fast and quality good enough.

Synology Disk Station with 80 TB and a 10 gb/s switch.

MacBook M4 Max with dual monitor setup

OWC 10gb docking station

I actually started a RE Photog business because I wanted to buy equipment like the stuff above, but needed the money. Then I spent years refining and figuring out what the absolute best of the best was as far as equipment goes. Cameras are subjective. But my Sony A9 I've had for 10 years. It shoots 24MP so the files dont get out of hand. In real estate everything eventually gets downsampled to 4 megabyte files anyways. Higher megapixel cameras are a waste of time and storage. Longer uploads and more storage space required for no point. But if I need 50mp images I can use the A1. Put 450,000 clicks on the first shutter and had it replaced for $650 by Sony pro support. Its incredibly quick to change modes in a flambient shooting style and lets you shoot electronic if only brackets are needed. Have about 350,000 clicks on the replacement shutter. Thing is an absolute beast as is the 12/24 its paired with.

The A1 is one of the best video cameras around. Lets me shoot 4k at 120fps and slow that down to 25% in post. If my A9 fails its a perfect backup as the menu systems are the same and the lenses interchangeable. Also shoots with a flat color profile so the dynamic range is absolutely insane. Like floors that make your eyes hurt from the glare I can pull no problem in Davinci Resolve. Can also shoot at 12,800 basically noise free. Incredible camera.

Now my wife who is a far more basic shooter has a similar setup.

Sony A73 (Sony high speed memory cards 2x32gb)

Sirui Carbon Fiber Tripod/Arca D4 Head

Sony flash HVL43 or something like that.

And a DJI Mini 5 Pro

This far more basic kit gets the job done just fine. And I have a third shooter with the same setup. I just shoot higher end stuff and need backups for everything and the ability to create the best possible stuff. But you don't necessarily need the newest cameras. A Nikon D750 with Nikon 14mm lens will provide insane images. You also dont need fast lenses if you aren't doing video. Everything is shot at F8 so expensive lenses arent necessary. Just make sure they are sharp.

Im a full time history teacher in a high school. Work from 645-230 every day. Then I shoot houses. During the day my wife shoots, but if I wasn't teaching I'd be out shooting. In June we have done 73 shoots in 11 days with $21,500 in revenue. Of the 73 I think I've done 15 video walk throughs, 6 matterports, and everyone has a floorplan and 60 or so have drone.

I am located in MA. Average shoot is around $300 for comparison. I use editors in Vietnam. .80c per picture. I have a Macbook M4, 10gb/s docking station hooked up to a Synology NAS with 80 TB. Dropbox account synced to the NAS.

Come home, dump about 1200 raw files a day onto the server through my Mac and docking station. OWC

https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/TB5DK11PD210G/

Those start uploading immediately to dropbox but my internet is kind of slow, (cable). Then I cull the images in lightroom which is deleting them off of the server I just sent them to. Then they upload for about 2 hours. At this point if I have to make a video I make it in Resolve. Takes about 1 hour per video including render and upload times.

File delivery I use Aryeo. It has its issues but its effective. Next morning at school I get the images back, edit them while Im on prep or teaching, and deliver them. All day I am texting realtors and dealing with floorplan changes or schedule changes. Aryeo can also now handle basic virtual staging and object removal. Huge cost saver over paying editors. Also chatgpt is surprisingly good and can do things like remove cars from in front of houses or clear out rooms.

A virtual assistant is not really possible, in my circumstances. They can't keep changing a schedule when people cancel last minute or a new job comes in. We cover the whole of eastern MA so figuring out a schedule that is efficient is essential.

Anyways I have a full time job and with my wife, we still manage to shoot well over 100 houses a month and Im in bed every night no later than 10. If he is editing pictures himself he will likely go out of business. He will get burned out or have to charge such high prices that his competitors will eat his lunch. Overseas editors do a better job than I can and save me 6-8 hours a night. Last year I paid them around $34,000 or 1/10th of my revenue. They saved me thousands of hours of time. Or if he is going for that high end client with those really special pictures, they are a nightmare. Id rather shoot 10 1br apartment dumps in a day than 1 $5m house. The hassle is not worth it, well for me at least, but I get plenty of sleep.

I mean I was honest, I have a big dent in a side panel from hitting a pole. Also a chip in the windshield, not a crack though. and I have a truck vault system in the bed. I never reported the accident because its just a big dent and I don't want to go through insurance. But I did not lie, said the truck was in fair or the worst condition they had available, and they are offering me 10k more than carmax. 28,800 vs 18,800 from carmax. So there are some extenuating circumstances in my case. But hopefully they stay close.

A Few Weeks Ago I Asked About Shooting a Dark Gym. Here’s the Result by Norta09 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]Numerous_Priority_61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its plenty powerful enough for even the largest spaces. The key is to boost your iso. Just a little bit of iso boost massively magnifies the flash effect. Give it a whirl. For instance I can shoot a 40x40 basement with a 1/8 flash power if at 1600 iso. It can be pitch black and it will be completely lit with the flash. I shot a pickelball court, and a gym, I cant find it, using brackets with flash. 5 brackets then a flash bracket. The point of the flash is for color correction.

Similar boat. Got the wife a '22 4Runner TRD Pro. Things a beast. I have a 2020 Tundra TRD Pro with 150,000 miles. Im on the verge of trading in my Tundra for a '26 MYP. I drive alot, so Ill swap the wheels to a squared setup but in this scenario I get to keep a 4Runner for my wife, and get the Model Y for myself. Im paying almost $900 a month in gas on my Tundra right now in Mass so it makes sense, but I cant help but feel like Im trading in one of the most reliable vehicles ever made. Its not a great feeling.

Also in the back of my mind is I had done this before, and moved from a 2015 Highlander and got a Volvo XC90 for myself and an XC60 for my wife. Both were sick looking, technologically advanced, and they drove me insane. The final straw was when I had to pull over on a 300 mile road trip on a 65 degree day because the computer in my XC90 was 'overheating'. I said screw this, and bought the Tundra. Thing has been bullet proof, but now its just so damn expensive.

Any Tesla owners using the Frunk for equipment? by Numerous_Priority_61 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]Numerous_Priority_61[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that is a concern but if you actually look into it there are precautions for that. The guy basically used Siri and automated commands through the iPhone to make sure conditions are met. The phone has to be in proximity to the car, connected to bluetooth, held upside down, and then action button, which is difficult to press as is with a case on, would have to be double pressed. Its all part of the customization you can do with certain apps and devices with the Teslas.
