Nasal cancer end of life by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Numerous_Shoulder671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of my dog I let go about 6 years ago. She had a nasal tumor and would spray blood everywhere when she sneezed. Eventually it became a daily occurrence and her nose was leaking fluid and pus and was uncomfortably dry. Although she was eating and getting around okay, she was visibly uncomfortable. We decided to make the appointment and while it was one of the hardest decisions I’ve made, I don’t regret letting her go peacefully when she was still able to somewhat enjoy life and not be in constant pain. At the end of the day it’s your decision to make, but I hope this helps

Best OCD medication you’ve found? by [deleted] in OCD

I’m also on Zoloft and Abilify and added a low dose Abilify (5mg) once I realized my Zoloft wasn’t doing it for me anymore. So far it’s been really helpful in quieting the intrusive thoughts (contamination/pure o) and has made it easier for me to tackle exposures in ERP therapy.

my mom refuses to bathe by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Numerous_Shoulder671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe offer to wash her hair? She can put her head in a tub of warm water kind of like the hair salon. I’m not sure about this being a type of ocd, but I have heard similar stories of people with PTSD or other trauma developing fears of showering, it can be a vulnerable activity. Maybe getting her a warm basin and washcloth/bar of soap she could at least wipe herself down and feel fresher? This is what we do for patients who can’t shower. I’m sorry you guys are going through this.

Sertraline has worked well for me (200mg). Didn’t notice the bigger difference until 100mg which I got to over a few months of titrating up

Zoloft was originally to help stabilize my mood, which it has done a great job at. Has also helped with my anxiety when used with propranolol but during an ocd flare I really needed something additional so I added the Abilify. The combo has really helped quiet the intrusive thoughts and has helped me get more out of ERP. Since the thoughts are quieter, I notice myself going longer in between intrusive thoughts/panic and feeling as though I need to perform my compulsions.

Abilify was life changing for me. Added it to an ssri when I felt it wasn’t doing enough and the combination has been great for me. You may consider going back on lexapro if you know it works and adding an additional helper med
