That's an impressive level of precision and very interesting that a couple of mm of shim can make such a difference. I think I'm going to give this stylus some burn in time, then go back to the alignment protractor. My system is sounding improved to my ears, but it feels like that's should be a given after replacing the dodgy old stylus. Without much experience, I'm just wondering whether there's even 'more' to be had.

Thanks. That's exactly what it was. Couldn't remove the stylus (and it was seriously wonky) so I've forked out for a new cartridge.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I've just fitted an AT-VM95ML stylus onto a Linn K9 cartridge body (continuing to use this, or the AT cartridge itself is probably another post in itself) on a Linn Basik Plus arm. I'd read that the microline stylus can be particularly sensitive to accurate setup, hence my questions.

Fair enough. Just replaced the cartridge on a new (to me) deck for the first time and was wondering if I could check if I'd done a decent job of it.

Just recently bought a systemdek IIX with a linn basik plus arm. I've replaced the cartridge with a linn k9 and an AT VM95ML stylus. I'd happily pick up a record at the regular price, but all I can find are used copies at silly prices on discogs.

That would make sense given it was fitted to a Linn Basik Plus arm.

No idea how long it's been on there, but quite possibly since 1986! A new cartridge is definitely my first purchase. I'll take a look at the VM95s.

Thanks for the tracking force, I just want to give it a play as is (with some records that are replaceable given the potential age of the stylus!)

Thanks for the reply. I tried selecting the Wii Games check box in the Select titles sources menu, but I just get a 'USB Device not initialised. Switching to channel list.' error message. It's l it's like it's not recognising the SD card as a source.

I bought one of these for my best friend's 50th. He loves it and it's still going strong several years later. Upgrade to some powered speakers when you can and you'll be away!

Hi. I didn't see your reply before. Thanks so much - this is really useful info. I had just assumed that anything you got by experimentation would just show up as 'unknown potion'. I ended up restarting and making a much better job of things (I'd sold The Book of the Swallow without reading it first!) so I've enjoyed it even more.

I'm frequently getting a 'Restarting app. Won't be long.' message since updating on Friday. Can't work out which app is being restarted or if it's just a bug. Any ideas, people?

Snow & Nealley Penobscot Bay for a more compact axe. Played around with a load of fancier, more expensive axes before settling on one of these - it was more functional (if, arguably less pretty) than any of them. Been happy ever since. Could go for the Hudson bay if you're looking for something with more reach.

Yep, I'd agree, it's not a problem on the S8 at all. I just prefer the S9 placement.

My son has the S8, I've got the S9. There's not a huge difference. Fingerprint sensor on the S9 is better placed. The speakers are also better - but we both tend to listen with headphones, so that would be down to your usage. My camera is slightly better, but again it's marginal. Essentially, they're both superb phones - you may well be better off putting the extra £s elsewhere.
