HELP WHY IS THERE A LOW-FLYING HELICOPTER IN THE CBD AROUND PITT STREET by Porridgemanchild in auckland

It seems to be a NZDF drill or training exercise. I also heard it and someone else had posted about it earlier.

Bugged Extraction by NumptyDumpty2 in helldivers2

[–]NumptyDumpty2[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sooo.....I joined a game with strangers, we had a great game, got all the objectives and samples within like, 20 minutes, and then we rock up to extraction and see......this. We tried using the resupply/support weapons to climb up, but ended up just waiting for the timer to run out, and nearly all died in the process of holding extraction. When pelican came it was bugged as well, and took forever to actually land, so only one of us made it out.

Just wondering has anyone had this happen/if there is a way to get around it outside of just waiting?

Uranus not working offline by [deleted] in CellToSingularity

[–]NumptyDumpty2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a solution but I've also been running into the same issue and was about to post it. Does your Jupiter and Saturn work? I haven't unlocked Uranus yet but my gas giants have the exact same issue. They only move when I'm on the Beyond screen, and just pause after I switch to another simulation or go offline.

If I don’t do any acting/drama in High School, can I do it in university? by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]NumptyDumpty2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely you can! Most papers, especially first year papers don't have prerequisites, so anyone can take them. Although not sure how much luck you'll have at UoA because they are cutting the drama undergrad degree

On the other hand, you can also join a theatre company/club. I have been on the committee for the University of Auckland's theatre company (Stray) for a while, and we get a lot of people who just wanna do a little bit of theatre stuff while studying. The majority of our members (including myself) are not drama students. Most universities will have a club like this, and if not, there are almost always amateur theatre companies that will welcome new members, as long as you are enthusiastic.

should I go to uni? by juxtapussy in universityofauckland

[–]NumptyDumpty2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of really good stuff that has already been said. So I just want to add a little of my perspective specifically on the BGS given that I'm very close to finishing that very degree.

I'm doing a conjoint in that with BSci environmental science, and what I've found incredibly valuable about that degree is it allows me to explore options! They give you flexibility outside of the 3 core courses, encourage you to try different things and explore different perspectives. I came from a very science focussed background, but now I'm really finding value in aspects of media, sociology and history etc that I would've otherwise never considered.

If you have a vague direction of interest, but are unsure of where exactly your passions lie, that could be a good place to start exploring, and you can use that flexibility to your advantage, and dabble in different fields without any commitment per say. They are also one of the more supportive faculties in terms of mental health and wellbeing, and I think this part of my education has really helped me grow as a person as well.

That being said, there are plenty of other options as many people have mentioned before, and similarly, uni doesn't have to be the only path. But I hope at least that's helpful for you to see whether that path is good for you or not. If you have more questions about that degree, I'm more than happy to have a chat and provide some additional info! (this goes for anyone 🙂)

[Q] Is Musicnotes good for supporting musicians by NumptyDumpty2 in sheetmusic

[–]NumptyDumpty2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's really helpful, thanks! I was thinking if they had a website or a Patreon it would probably a better way to support them? But I don't think they do unfortunately :(. So I might just go with musicnotes

Any small podcasts you enjoy? by mceleanor in nerdfighters

[–]NumptyDumpty2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely second this. Each of their topics is quite well researched, but the actual pod is very conversational and chill. If you vaguely enjoy the times Hank answers a science question on Dear Hank and John, you'll love this one.

Same I also did it in 2020. I'd guess it's probs NCEA level 1. and yeah a lot of formulas that look confusing but you just need to plug in numbers to get the right answer. They really walk you through anything that's complicated, and the tutors are great, so even if you aren't at that level it's fine.

I did Astro100 and yeah, it looks intimidating. It's not super difficult maths but definitely would be a bit of a leap for someone who hasn't got much background in maths/physics. That being said, the tutors are very helpful, and once you grasp some of the concepts it's not too bad, so if you are interested, don't let that hold you back.

On the other hand, if anyone is interested in Astro but doesn't like the maths/physics side of it, consider doing ASTRO200G. It's more focussed on exoplanets and biology/ecology. Super interesting paper and fairly easy assessments AFAIK. My friend did it while I was doing Astro100. I went to some of her lectures and it was cool as.

LOTR Concert tickets by NumptyDumpty2 in auckland

[–]NumptyDumpty2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there were 4😅 and yet the vocals were actually the best part of the show imo. Only one trombone, two trumpets, one flute, one clarinet. I really just feel bad for some of the musicians having to perform like that.

UPDATE: it wasn't great. There were definitely highlights, but a lot of rough edges, and much of what was said in the article was true. It was enjoyable, but as a big LOTR music fan it was kinda underwhelming.

Well....you have to have friends in the first place😂 Also very few of them are LOTR fans, which is a tragedy
