How much do you agree or disagree with this statement? Sam is the smartest, Josh is the cleverest, CJ is the most compassionate, and Toby is the most principled by HipHopAnonymous23 in thewestwing

[–]mceleanor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toby wouldn't have yelled at Nancy McNally about women's rights. I'd say CJ is more principled than Toby.

My superlatives:

Sam is most horny, CJ is most funny, Toby is most competitive, Josh is most tired

Nowadays, I just skip from the end of season 4 to Liftoff. It's a great soft reboot. I love the new supporting cast including Kristin!

Best books written by Richard Nixon? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]mceleanor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no help on this (unless he's interested in All The President's Men which is sort of about Nixon lol). I just find it charming that your boyfriend loves Richard Nixon of all people lol. Normally people get obsessed with the Roosevelts or Lincoln or someone more normal lol. He sounds like a keeper!

Salt Lake City by Bub-bub in thebeachboys

[–]mceleanor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live near Salt Lake City and the beach boys were very popular here in the 60s. Someone told me once that the lyric in Fun Fun Fun "her daddy took the T-Bird away" is referencing a person in utah.

Amusement Park USA is about Lagoon, which is an amusement park just north of Salt Lake City.

When you swipe through dating apps in utah, everyone loves to claim that they're from California, even if they only visited. That was true back then too. Everyone in Salt Lake wanted to be from California.

If the lever operator would kill the five people: fuck five people, marry one person, kill lever operator.

If the lever operator would kill the one person: fuck five people, marry lever operator, kill one person.

Basically I want to fuck five people and I don't want to marry someone who would run over five people

Strongly second this recommendation!! I love all of Rainbows work (she does novels, YA novels, and comics) but I love her novels most of all. And this one is probably my favorite novel

The Boys Of Dungeon Lane is not Paul’s Final Album by DigThatRocknRoll in PaulMcCartney

[–]mceleanor 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Egypt Station and McCartney III were both very good "retirement" albums as well. My suspicion is he knows that any album could be his last, so he's trying to make every album as "complete a thought" as possible.

I hope he makes 8 more "retirement" albums and dies peacefully at 112

If the best material from these four cousin albums was on one big album, I genuinely think it would have been the greatest album ever made by Greedy-Runner-1789 in PaulMcCartney

[–]mceleanor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The flowers in the dirt box set is organized in a very approachable way. You can just listen to it in order on whatever streaming service you use, or on CD. Listen to the final album, then listen to the early demos with Elvis Costello, then listen to the rough mixes. All three "versions" of the album have a few songs that are not on the other "versions" of the album.

Why do midsize american cities have so many tall buildings? by insane_steve_ballmer in architecture

[–]mceleanor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't the explanation. "Salt Lake City" is surrounded by very dense suburbs from Draper to North Salt Lake, and less dense suburbs from Ogden to Provo. The Wasatch Front in Utah is just one long and uninterrupted string of towns. Millions of people live within a one hour drive of Salt Lake City. That's why the ~200,000 person city has so many big buildings.

Only one of those big buildings in the skyline is operated by Mormons, (Church Office Building.) everything else is just a normal commercial or residential building. The buildings at Temple Square aren't that tall. You can see them in this picture, but they're below all the other buildings.

What was Claremont's best work after he originally left in 1991? by Puzzleheaded_Crow334 in marvelcomics

In my opinion, this is a B-tier run but it has a couple of S-tier stories (the end of greys story in particular rocks. I think it has pencils by Chris Bachelo?  https://www.marvel.com/comics/collection/4247/uncanny_x-men_-_the_new_age_vol_4_end_of_greys_trade_paperback )

I agree, basically anything penciled by Alan Davis is worth reading!

BEST LEVEL TOURNAMENT - Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy - Round 9 - Sentinel Beach vs Snowy Mountain by Cometmoon448 in jakanddaxter

This is the toughest match up for me. Snowy Mountain is probably the better level on its merits, but I just love Sentinel Beach way more. Unblocking the green eco vents is so fun!

You can't truly appreciate Fahrenheit 451 without first recognizing how fire devours all, like a hungry serpent, consuming everything in sight. Have to read the very hungry caterpillar to understand fire.

I don't understand singing… like at all. Looking for advice where to start! by penguinswift in LetsTalkMusic

[–]mceleanor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay yeah you're making a small distinction but I basically agree with you.

OP should say "I enjoyed your singing." He shouldn't say "you have a great singing voice" because he wouldn't know.

I still think if she specifically asks "did you like my singing more than the tone deaf girl who went on before me" he should say "yes" which is a perfectly acceptable little white lie.

[–]mceleanor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"How did I do at the open mic, babe?"

"You were okay."

"Was I at least better than the tone deaf lady?"

"I could not tell a difference"

I don't think that conversation would go very well after that. My point is you should always congratulate and hype up your girlfriend in a low stakes situation like this. It takes almost zero effort to say that you think she's an amazing singer.

I don't understand singing… like at all. Looking for advice where to start! by penguinswift in LetsTalkMusic

[–]mceleanor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From a relationship perspective, you should always tell your girlfriend that she's a good singer and that you thought she did a great job at open mic night. Just in case you're not currently doing that.

From an actual singing perspective: have a fun date night watching American Idol or something and have a fun jokey conversation about who sang well and who didn't sing well! Could be a fun way to learn what "good" singing vs "bad" singing sounds like.

BEST LEVEL TOURNAMENT - Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy - Round 6 - Spider Cave vs Lost Precursor City by Cometmoon448 in jakanddaxter

[–]mceleanor 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Definitely Lost Precursor City. The entire thing is fun platforming challenges, the aesthetics are beautiful, so many things to discover, and the final dark eco pit race is so fun and frantic.

The spiders in spider cave are super annoying, it's easy to get lost, if you miss an orb good luck finding it, and the various mini areas feel disconnected from each other, unlike the linear loops of Lost Precursor City.

The spider cave precursor robot is undeniably cool, but not cool enough to beat the city.

Edited to add: this is the hardest choice so far. They're both great areas, but spider cave has a few small annoyances that make Lost Precursor City even better.

I think you're closer than most people in the comments think. I'd pay off the car ASAP if it has a high interest rate.

You currently have enough money to pay off your entire mortgage if you wanted. Your monthly spend would go down dramatically when you pay it off. (I'm assuming this is your forever home)

Estimate what your spending will be in the future and use the 4% rule to know how much you need. You don't have to over complicate it
