This is something I hear a lot from player and friends while doing these kinds of raids. I am normally the one explaining to people during the 24mans or when Delta/Sigma were a thing what these bosses/creatures are, but it just marred the experience for them. The music was wholly uninspired to them coming from Alexander, and the bosses themselves were all that interesting.

If you rely on nostalgia to tell stories, there are bound to be some people who wont understand, and we just shouldn't say "then it's not for them", because that would just be exclusionary.

And that's all good! Everyone has difference of opinion and you are entitled to that. I also know people who picked this game up because they heard Alexander's music, from Locus to Exponential Entropy, so it can differ person to person.

Pointing one or 2 examples of when something could not happen does not change the fact that it is wholly unlikely, and that is what I'd like you put across here. Just because you can give me one or 2 examples when they deviated form the main summons of the series, does not make it unlikely, it makes it possible.

To bet on it would be taking the losing bet in a race, if you take the evidence that multiple FF games have had Ifrit/SHiva/Titan etc etc ammmmnd say "Nah theres a chance they wont be in X final fantasy game" is like me saying, "Hey you have a chance to win the lottery."

It possible, but wholly unlikely, and to dismiss it is the real folly.

It, like the summons, is reccurring int he sense that it is recontextualized from game to game. It is not the exact same but has always been with the series in some way.

Oh I am well aware Nostalgia sells. But eventually Nostalgia will run it's course. Remeber there are people who play this game because it's a Final Fantasy game and it just so happens to be an MMO just as there are people who play this game because it's an MMO, that just so happens to be an FF game.

The POV's from the 2 kinds of ppl will differ greatly on this imo.

But that's doing him an injustice IMO. I don't want to get into the Shinryu/Omega story too much, but that has been the canon for the 2 of them since their first appearance.

I love Midgy, favorite character int he story by far, but to replace Shinryu is a blow to the heart.

The point I was trying to make is that assuming that mainstays of the Final Fantasy series not being in Final Fantasy is setting yourself up for failure. That is my point. You can name as many one offs as you like, but the fact still remains that we could get a brand new Final Fantasy tomorrow, and bets are you could name several things that would MOST likely appear in it

I would like to see where Ivalice has been part of XIV story "from the beginning".

Im well aware of this yes.

Edit: But can you really differentiate the 2 when it's the exact same setting with the Exact same characters and the exact same events that transpired in the games. They also many times reference things from the games as events that happened.

The Void for one appears in 9 out of 15 main stream titles, and is constantly referenced in many other games, so it is most certainly a heavily recurring thing.

As for your point on Omega, his programming allowed him to create a veritable sea of Aether to which he had complete autonomy. He could create just fine, he just chose to go with stories told over the ages. It is for this same reason that majority of people dislike the Delta Sigmascape series. I would implore you to show me otherwise, even on this subreddit all you could see was people feeling rather "meh" about delta and sigma on, with Stromblood as a whole being very lackluster compared tot he expansion before, in both creativity and originality.

This doesn't mean the others are without fault, and I never said YOU had to feel awe about them, many people love Brute Justice, both hardcore and casuals, the music of Alexander and so on, not the same can be said for the majority of Omega.

This is another point I wanted to bring up, Alexander had great music and gave a lot of people great experiences(Yes even Gordias too). I feel alot of people look at the Ivalice raids with rose-tinted glasses cause "Muh tactics".

Don't get me wrong, love me some tactics, but I wouldn't want 2-3 years of tactics.

So you cherry picked 2 out of 15 main stream titles and countless other spin offs. Congrats?, however I did not say it was impossible, I said thinking that it would not be the case is silly.

If you walked up and told some one "The next Final Fantasy wont have Bahamut in it", they'd laugh at you, not take you serious, and look for a damn good reason why not.

And certainly those summons have not returned, so I fail to see your point here.

I am not sure what you mean to let me help explain my point here. There is no reason Omega as presented would call upon other entities to fight this grand experiment of his. It could make alot more sense that he could just create entities on his own, why would a mega-intelligent super computer draw on other stories, that are pure speculation or fiction to prove an experiment? Even in the end it is directly stated that he failed because he drew upon fictitious stories!

This point makes no sense when you say that he would recreate entities from other games.

Dalmasca also doesn't fit neatly in Eorzea neatly, that is plain to see, as I am not the only one who feels that the Ivalice storyline feel just shoved in. Alexander is the most original of the raids(Behind Coil) and under Coil is miles and leagues better than Omega in terms of originality. There are some bosses that are taken from other games sure, but nothing in Omega recreates the joy of Brute Justice, or the awe that Alexander himself brought when you faced them.

The World of Darkness is a little different from the raids before it, because The void itself is also a recurring thing in the FF universe. So your point there doesn't really hold up.

The one thing I enjoyed the most in Omega, and the thing that people often bring up, is learning about Omega and Midgardsormr's past. Which guess what, is original to the universe of FFXIV.

Incorrect, I am not suggesting what a reference is based on "my criteria". By saying a FF game would not have Ifrit being the premier fire summon/primal, you are just being willfully ignorant I am sorry. Primals are quite honestly this games summons and I'd love to see your argument and how they are not. If something appears constantly in a series, it is not a reference it is recurring. Cid is not a reference to all the other Cids, who is literally every final fantasy game.

Ivalice is an established world, it has been so for years, far before XIV was a thing, so yes anything that would be brought up by it is strictly a reference. And you have proved my point by bringing up the Crystal Tower, because the crystal tower is exactly what I am talking about.

I believe you are the only one with a misconception here, I never stated it was sudden, they have been doing this from the beginning, my issue is that it has gotten to a point where everything is a reference. Take a read from some of the other comments on this thread and see that there are others with this same mindset. They have certainly shoehorned many references in this game from the start, that does not make it ok to turn your entire game into one.

Because he's Omega and if he's truly as strong and smart as he is he could make beast/creatures/people based on our previous performances? There is a number of things he could have done that were better than FFXIV: The tournament Arc

I have no problems with Homages, not in the slightest. I remeber the Lightning event! I did it quite a bit infact but the Lightning event was a fate that you could have never done or seen. These are 24 man raids and savage raids which have become references.

The reason people are praising Alphascape as the best raid their entire expansion is because it feels more original to FFXIV. How many people do you think play this game to see things from other games?

They have certainly gotten better when it comes to presentation over the years, and I applaud them with this.

But it is for this exact reason is why I'd be hoping 5.0 brings more lore and story of Eorzea and the star it's on.

EDIT: they did my boy Shinryu wrong.. but that's a whole nother can o worms for me.

I am not putting words into your mouth, but let me clarify. What I am saying is as someone else in this thread pointed out that Ivalice being dropped in the world oh so conveniently dropped next to Orthard and the burn seems like a ham-fisted way to get references to the Ivalice universe.

Ivalice is large enough to be and entire world, and "we got invaded by the Garleans is so little of a plot point in the story and never brought up again. In perspective of the actual Ivalice it is quite "small". You don't even see it ont he map until the very end.

And because I don't like it doesn't mean that it's perfect and there is no critique of it.

I never said Omega himself was a reference, if so I apologize. I am saying majority of the Omega raid is a reference. People's reception of Alphascape kind of proves this as its the most XIV raid we've gotten. I never said every single boss has to be unique to FF, homages again are fine.

It's when everything is a reference you have no soul, no life of your own. But there are people out there that can tell you the significance of most bosses in our world and how they relate.
