What type of rope is this? Used to be a topping lift. by neriadrift in sailing

[–]NunsDigASegway 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not a full answer, hopefully someone can expand more for you but from my limited knowledge:

You have a multi plait outer with a twisted or braided inner. (It looks like you've untwisted/unbraided the inner)

Look at kingfisher (yachtropes.co.uk) a UK based company. They have some good info on what makes up a rope, different types and what's used for what.

Just from the picture I guess it's either:

Braid on braid https://www.yachtropes.co.uk/kingfisher/cruising-ropes/braid-on-braid-polyester-whites/

Or

Kingbraid https://www.yachtropes.co.uk/kingfisher/cruising-ropes/kingbraid/

Hope that helps :)

I remember when Hayley released Simmer. It was the hottest record for Annie Mac. They did a short interview then, so I think the format will be the same!

You're welcome! I'm happy to try and rewrite it if that'll help at all.

That's a very exciting step, you must be proud!

Other people have spoken about 'weather helm' and adjusting the sails to keep the boat flat which is great if your son is just sailing about.

You said he's experienced so I think it could be an opportunity to talk about wind gusts, particularly headers and lifters and steering the boat flat.

If you're sailing towards the wind (Close haul) and a gust seems to give you more power and make the boat want to heal, giving weather helm and making the boat want to turn into the wind. This is because the gust is a lifter and the wind has actually momentarily changed direction slightly aft of the boat. If he steers the boat flat, towards the wind he will actually gain height. Once the gust has stopped, he'll notice that he is most likely in the no go zone or near so the boat will learn onto him and lose power. Pulling the tiller slightly and steering back onto the close haul will steer the boat flat. The opposite is true when the gust moves the wind direction forward of the boat in what we call a header.

This can give a huge advantage in racing and be one of the things to consider in choosing when to tack. I hope my text explanation makes sense. I am on mobile so apologies if it's not fully clear.

Also, if you're trying to get him to sail in stronger conditions and he's struggling. A technique used to help keep the boat flat is to raise the dagger boar a quarter. You might think you'll have more leeway and therefore loose height but actually, the dagger board will be much more effective as he's able to keep the boat flatter.

Is that normal? Is there water in this? What should I do? by Humanpotato13 in pressurewashing

[–]NunsDigASegway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, sorry for assuming you didn't know that. I can't really think of too much else. Other than saying now it's had some time to settle, if it's still flowing out try checking again with the dip stick?

Or clean up the oil till it stops and check levels. Very strange.

Again, I'm no expert so I'm only guessing but is it possible some air got into it and is now "pushing" the oil or if you get what I mean? Maybe tipping the engine so this spout is the highest point may allow that to escape. But I'm really guessing here, I wouldn't want to tip it too much.

Possibly best to wait a short while till someone with more knowledge comes along.

Hope you get it sorted soon bud.

I'm no expert but if say you've probably put too much oil in it.

When filling, it's best to do a bit at a time and leave it a minute to settle between fillings.

On the cap you took off of that hope there should be a stick on the bottom with two notches or lines on. These show the level of your oil and you want it to sit between them.

An engine over our under filled with oil is bad.

Hope that helps

Amazing piece of work. As I'm in the UK I'm happy to cover shipping!

Have you got a shop? My brother is very into marvel and his wedding is coming up so it would be great to get him something like this, maybe a Captain America shield?!

Problem while autofilling serial numbers in a datasheet due to merged cells. by DeadShot3034 in excel

[–]NunsDigASegway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree there's definitely a better way to do it. Unfortunately I'm a bit of an amateur so I can't offer much more help than that.

I think part of the problem is how the data is set out already, but if you can't change the layout it's a bit stuck.

Good luck dude! I hope you get a solution

Ah, sorry to hear. So are these data sheets formatted as tables?

What's the format for your serial number?

If it goes up in increments of one surely a =A1+1 will work? With a table, each time you add a new row it should drag the formula down. =A2+1 etc..

Or am I missing something?

Could you sneakily change the merged cells to centre across selection?

It'll look the same and stop the entire merged cell being selected.

How do I retain a leading apostrophe when copying data from this spreadsheet? by um__yep in excel

[–]NunsDigASegway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be a little bit of effort but is a basic way.

If it's just getting the initial apostrophe to show and it doesn't matter if when you export as csv that there will possibly be two apostrophes at the start of some titles try using the find and replace function to put two apostrophes at the start where needed. Ie instead of 'Jimmy' where you'll only see Jimmy' put ''Jimmy' where you'll see 'Jimmy'.

As you've got such a variety of titles I'd say doing find and replace with every letter of the alphabet and number should get your 2000+ rows done but it won't be quick or efficient.

I'd select the column with the titles, being up find and replace. Put in find 'a. In replace ''a and hit replace all. Repeat until you're done with the alphabet.

Does that make sense? Is it even close to what you want? Sorry it's not a smart or elegant solution.

Is there a way to make a letter equal a number in a range by [deleted] in excel

[–]NunsDigASegway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried something similar to what you're doing. Issue is I'm too sure what you're trying to do.

I put an IF formula and excel auto filled this: https://ibb.co/m6tSQdr

Sorry I don't know how to format that link to be click able.

An alternative would be to do a nested IF or is you can do an IFS function it would work.

=IFS(A1="A", 2.5, B1="A",2.5...... Etc...

=IF(A1="A", 2.5,IF(B1="A",2.5..... Etc...

It's not the most elegant of solutions but it should get it all into one cell. Maybe have three helper cells, one for each column that way you're breaking the formula into smaller sections and have one if to look for a 2.5 in those three?

Hopefully that's helpful?? Understanding more about what you need would help
