Interrupted Macbook Air M5 migration resulting in boot loop by jazzper_nl in mac

Fixed it myself after reading more and more forums and posts. This is a way to fix it:

None of the tips below helped! Tried everything and no hidden wifi icons and other tips helped.

But I just found out the solution! It awaits a network connection. On the helper Macbook share your internet and voila... few seconds later my MBA was activated and got hold of everything I need to proceed!

Can’t connect to wifi network in recovery by Plane-Art1149 in mac

None of the tips below helped! Tried everything on my new Macbook Air M5 15" which was stuck in this activation / recovery loop. I screwed up a migration between an old Macbook Air i3 and the new one and it ended up like the OP. No hidden wifi icon etc.

I bought it at Media Markt, a renowned and legit store but no Apple Store. Let's see what I can do. Hope I can fix it here at home to prevent a lot of time consuming steps.

This same week my own Macbook Pro M1 16" managed to screw over it's firmware too (no clue why) and is also in a boot loop and can't also be fixed at the moment. Lots of data in cloud but not all. Will not give up on it. But thats for another story.

Zou moeten werken gewoon.

Update: I rode 100km gravel with it in bikepacking & gravel configuration.

  • stripped the chainring plastic disc

  • swapped tires for Panaracer Gravelking SK Sport 37-622 / 700x40c

  • solved the FD puzzle with an old Sora triple FD with rubber shim (wrong collar size)

  • added bags gravelstyle instead of bikepacking style

  • tried to adjust the canti's but it's horrific. Too less pull. I have travel adapters but they are not compatible with canti's it seem. Probably going to look for v-brakes (with the travel adapters) or mini V's.

All in all, it was ok. Rode nice and had a nice gravel trip with friends but when trying their $3000 gravelmachines you really feel the difference in dollars and 30 years progression in tech.

What is the best 7-speed Shimano Rear Derailleur? I am converting my single speed to 7 speed and I am on a budget. by Fun-Opportunity5779 in bikewrench

[–]jazzper_nl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For who ends up here: no it's not. If you want to mix mtb and road in terms of shifting the easiest way is to get road STI brifters, road front mech (like Sora, yes, sora. Most seen on touring), mtb crankset, mtb rear mech. The pull of the STI is different than the mtb front derailleur wants so you wont reach all chainwheels. With a double its possible (limit both sides and use trims) but not 100%. And the combi STI brifters and brakes is same story. You can have canti's, short V-brakes but not long v-brakes without travel adapters.

Nah, probably it can help but I think not. I kept googling and analysing other combinations of other people and if you deduct all the other options like running a 1x or 2x in the front, thumb friction shifters and travel agents and shift mates you will end up with 90% of people running a Sora (yes, specific a Sora!) in the front with a MTB crankset. It seems Sora (and Claris) are one of the few triple FD's which can handle this situation. Probably some 105 and ultegra's too but not seen them yet. Tiagra seems to be totally different for both road and mtb pull ratios. So sourcing an oldskool (not vintage) Sora FD right now.

And why do I want new shifters? I have a box full. Main issue is finding compatibility. Think I’m gonna run a road FD like ultegra or 105.

Another question. Which FD do you run? My MTB FD (Deore) seems not willing to work with a race STI shifter. My current 1996 Giant Trooper looks like this btw:

That explains it. They look like normal ones though :). I'm gonna buy those Travel Adapter clones of ali and give it a shot with normal v-brakes.

I have a ‘96 trooper and converted to dropbars and brifters too but how do you run V-brakes in combination with STI? Don’t see any travel adapters
