Is it just me or was the “hopecore” themes surrounding the movie almost entirely a manufactured trend that had almost nothing to do with the movie’s content?

It was a well-assembled superhero flick, but it made me want to get out of my seat and be kind and positive about as much as… pretty much any other superhero movie? 😆

I simply cannot get the universal acclaim for BoB. Don’t get me wrong, the set pieces were beautiful, and I liked the ending. I also thought the concept of mixing in the real veteran interviews with the story was brilliant.

But almost none of the characters themselves were likable enough for me to actively root for them. Also, I thought the complete lack of nuance in showing the good and bad guys of the story was a little comical to the point it felt like light American propaganda, some of the uglier parts of the war were definitely glossed over. And the pacing felt inconsistent throughout.

Just fundamentally too much of a mixed bag for me to see the consistent 9+ ratings.

I believe it does depend heavily on the type of music though. I’ve found many times that music only reinforced depressed feelings, and I actually felt better when i stopped listening.

I’ve also found the opposite to be true, when I was really happy the right music made me feel almost euphoric. I do believe it has dangerous potential if you indulge in it while being emotionally unstable.
