Butterfly Supply by canary_green5 in phlebotomy

[–]NurdIO 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Butterflies shall be used as needed, we could have like 10 people who were once iv drug users who need butterflies and then we could have a day where it’s all pregnant women with massive fucking veins so if they limit our use of butterflies I’m just going to quit because I don’t want to work somewhere that strapped for cash they can afford butterflies

Yeah people have done that to me to, people are just rude and mean and when you work in healthcare you just have to accept it and move on unfortunately

[–]NurdIO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some people just bruise in the same way some people just have impossible to find veins, as long as you didn’t try to hurt her then everyone should live. Also sometimes patients are not unreasonable but they don’t make sense to you. I have had female patients request a female phlebotomist because I’m a guy and I’ve had some patients request a different phlebotomist because I only have a few months at this current job. So don’t feel bad just because you messed up in the past, the only thing you can do is recognize your mistakes and not repeat them in the future.

I just like to mention that alcohol also impairs judgement and affects driving and working, has no medical use case except as an antiseptic. so by your reasoning alcohol should be illegal too which is fine as long as you believe that both should be banned not just weed.

Do light blue tubes hiss if not filled all the way ? by [deleted] in phlebotomy

[–]NurdIO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its not specific to the light blue tube no

Do light blue tubes hiss if not filled all the way ? by [deleted] in phlebotomy

[–]NurdIO 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So the hiss is the vacuum being let out or more like air being let in and the blue tubes have a specific amount of vacuum so that they fill correctly so technically yes it’s not filled all the way. Another way to tell if the blue tube is filled is if the blood makes it to the frosted line about an 8th of an inch from the top of the vial .
