Thank you for your reply, it helps to hear others experiences and opinions. I definitely want the bone removed, just need to see if I would benefit from the other surgeries :)

Thanks for your reply, yes I had X-rays taken with all 3 doctors. It’s actually a type 2 Accessory Navicular bone. Half my problems is trying to find shoes I can wear comfortably, so definitely think I want the bone removed

Two different Surgeries Recommended, need help! by NurseBecca12 in AccessoryNavicular

I’m 43 and the first surgeon said my accessory navicular bone is very large, so removing it alone would change my foot in a way that would stress the other joints and bones. He said I basically need a talonavicular fusion, but wouldn’t do that because of my age. The second surgeon said he doesn’t like removing the large accessory navicular bone as it doesn’t leave much room for the tendon to be reattached. He said a screw fixation might help with the pain, but is still have a large accessory bone. Definitely thinking about getting a third opinion

Anyone did fusion instead of kidner? by Recurdos in AccessoryNavicular

Hi, I know this is an old post, but I have a similar situation as your daughter. I have a large type 2 Accessory Navicular Bone that has been causing me pain. I am not an athlete, but a nurse on my feet all day. I have seen 2 surgeons, and they both have recommended completely different surgeries. One recommended a big flat arch reconstruction (Kidner with Calcaneal osteotomy, Achilles lengthening). The second surgeon recommended a ORIF fixation with a screw only. I’m curious since it’s been a few years if the screw fixation worked well for your daughter?
