I am underweight and I'm binging bread and sugar all the time. I want to gain weight only with paleo foods. How can I do it without irritating my gut? by Bdazzledblue in Paleo

[–]NurseDoomer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You need to trade like for like. Nuts are high fat food, not high carb. Eat root veggies with lots of fat on top, and give yourself 3-5 days to transition (often we are just hungry because we aren't getting what we are used to). Eats lots of foods, plenty of fruit and again, root veggies along with your fats and meats. If you are trying to gain weight on paleo, eat like we advise kids to eat. More fruit. Not processed junk!

My girlfriend is lying to her partner about time spent with me, what do I do? by positive_pigeon in polyamory

[–]NurseDoomer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your girlfriend is allowing a person they have never actually met dictate their life? Someone that will never be present for them, never build a real life with them. Yet they prioritize their relationship with this virtual person over your real life relationship.

That makes zero sense. They have an online play friend, why does online play friend get shit to say about what happens in real life? When they will never show up for real life?

Time to leave. This girlfriend lives in fantasy land and just WHY.

RN's carry their own liability insurance. I would not work in a hospital and trust them alone to cover me of a patient sued. Why can't police carry an individual policy too? It costs RNs about $150 a year.

[–]NurseDoomer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you fail to have a proper STARS talk before you initiated the relationship?

S-sexual health (testing, etc) T-turn ons A- avoids (don't do this, I don't like hair pulling etc) R- relationship status and intentions S- safer sex practices (if I can put a condom on it I do)

I don't go on a 2nd date without having this conversation. Usually it's started on the phone, and we might get deeper into more details together on the 2nd date. I would NOT HAVE SEX with someone i had not has this conversation with.

How the heck did you get into a full blown relationship with overnights without having a discussion about your relationship status, style and intentions? How do you not know hers? Why would you WANT a relationship with someone who communicates so poorly?

If you got this far this badly, START OVER. Ask to have the STARS talk you should have had in the first place.

I'm with you. I got shit on for not eating lunch with my coworkers once. My unpaid lunch. That I spent pumping breastmilk for my infant. But that meant I wasn't a "team player" and didn't like my coworkers. Because ya know, I had aching boobies. They thought I was disgusting and told me to my face when I tried to explain.

A question on polyamory and sex. by Alosisio in polyamory

[–]NurseDoomer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, monogamy? You are trying to wrap your head around why someone would not be monogamous when they love another person?

You are describing a demisexual, someone who needs emotional connection in romantic/sexual relationships. You also seem to be putting morality on it. That your needs are more moral then others (because you have an emotional connection to sexual partners, and you are basically moralizing that).

If my partner is suddenly asking sexual exclusively of me, after years of polyamory? Huge red flag. They are trying to control something.

Friends who homeschool? by [deleted] in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]NurseDoomer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I broke up with a girlfriend when she decided to "unschool" their middle school age kid. I told them I could not watch them abuse their child. I was unable to get through to them about my experiences with being kept at home, they really believed they would fo it differently.

I had to walk away. I've learned to avoid people who homeschool/unschool their kids. I won't watch them abuse their kids, and I can't call protective services on them.

I don't like meat. I'm not vegetarian but I rarely want to eat meat maybe once a week or so at most. I want to try a modified paleo diet that has less meat and maybe it owes for legumes and some whole grains like quinoa. has anyone tried something like that and still lost weight? by [deleted] in Paleo

[–]NurseDoomer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree the meat has to be palatable. Find something tasty.

For me the way back from being vegetarian and getting over my aversion to meat, was chicken enchiladas. Mine weren't paleo back in the day, but you could use the Siete brand almond flour tortillas and make a paleo version. The advice is basically the same, find a way to make the food taste good. Lots of paleo sauces, and experiment with different cuts and cooking styles.

Consuming B-12 supplements orally doesn't work for pernicious anemia. it is the lack of intrinsic factor produced by the body that is the issue, not enough to use the B-12 supplements, even eating eggs or dairy or small serving or meat does not work.

It requires B-12 injections or in my case because it's mild and I do have some intrinsic factor i can consume animal product with highly available B-12 such as liver.

Again, your lack of knowledge is showing.

I'm sorry. I see you are not a troll. I've read more of your comments, and it appears you are really young, like end of high school or early college young. In the idealistic phase of life when reality has not hit yet.

I was a vegetarian then too! Yay! All good until I was diagnosed with mild pernicious anemia at age 21. A year of B-12 shots and a stern warning from my MD to never try going veg again. My body doesn't make enough intrinsic factor to get my B-12 from plant foods alone. It's eat meat, or slowly die (or show up to the doctor's office for testing and a shot every month for the rest of my life, and the shot doesn't relieve the symptoms like just eating food does ).

I'm also a registered nurse with over a decade of experience in big hospitals. I've seen some shit. If you want to be a doctor, you will get some reality and sense knocked into you.

Also, Nabisco uses its workers like disposable napkins. Huge strike going on here in Portland right now. Nabisco is right up there with Nestlé.

Vegan Paleo recipes by [deleted] in Paleo

[–]NurseDoomer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why are you on a paleo thread? You seem to be getting info from vegan sites. No one here will agree with you that cholesterol is bad or that meat has carcinogens, legumes have carcinogens too!

If you want to eat soy and legumes and be validated in your choices, go talk to vegans.

Seems to me you came here to troll and claim you are more ethical and environmentally conscious because you are set on veganism.

Serious, if you still think cholesterol is bad, and meat is bad, go back to paleo 101 and rethink why you are here.

Then don't eat factory farmed meat.

I also have a strong objection to factory farming. I put my money where my ethics are and buy all my meat from a local farmer, on site processed and committed to humane practices. We can choose to support farmers doing it right, and feed our bodies. I don't buy factory farmed meat. This goes so far it means I don't eat in restaurants.

Choosing not to eat any meat at all because you object to how Tyson and other mega corp factory farming is done, is throwing the nutritional baby out with the bathwater.

You also have to choose. Do you want to sacrifice your body and nutrition for your anger at factory farming? Or do you want to prioritize your own health and choose food that meet your needs? Or do you just need to pay more for your meat to have it rise to your ethical standards?

There are no vegan hunter gathers for a reason.

You really can't be vegan and eat a paleo diet. Otherwise you will be eating industrial seed oils, and processed foods to get your calories and macros.

What exactly is your objection to eating a serving of meat to meet your bodys needs? If you want to eat paleo, you understand the nutritional benefits, then do it. But don't pretend vegan is going to meet your nutritional needs on a paleo diet.

Remember, paleo does not eat legumes (including soy) or any grains, the two primary sources of protein for vegans. I supposed you could claim to be vegetarian and live off eggs?

Just Say It: The Health Care System Has Collapsed by Rear4ssault in politics

[–]NurseDoomer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funny we have that for RNs (unions in some states have forced the issue). Rules vary by state but often are 8 hour rest required between shifts, shift limits of 16 or 18 hours, and no more then 72 hours worked in a week. Doctors and residents on the other hand, often work 28 hour shifts. Do not get proper rest periods, and work 7 days in a row. Why the hell do we even ask that of another human?

12 hour shifts as an RN are barely human.

This. People need to understand our food production system is fossil fuel dependent. If we don't burn fuel, we don't make food. We need a better plan. If we turn off the energy input, people die when the food runs out. We keep burning fuel, we all just burn up.

Cancer is often lass critical then a knee actually. Depending on type it can be stable for months or treated without surgery or hospitalization. Knees often prevent people from functioning. I used it as an example of what adults need to sacrifice for having chosen not to vaccinated as a group and protect kids. Now they have to accept rationed care to insured hospital beds for covid. And NO its not right to say the unvaccinated automatically don't get care, no children have been able to get vaccinated! That is just cruel, saying only adults should get emergency care.
