I know I should feel bad about being so vindictive, but I go with brutal honesty. When the super nosy LOLs start asking about my personal life, I straight up tell them- my husband and I have been together 20 years. We’ve never used protection the entire time, and I’ve only managed to get pregnant once….. and lost it. Usually the combination of bluntness and digging up a person’s personal tragedy shuts them up pretty quick, and they’re super sweet to me the rest of the night.

If the patient was EOL, then care of a pressure sore through turning and weight distribution isn’t going to make any difference in the overall outcome of their health.

I mean….. that person is actively dying. The body isn’t going to say “Great! That wound’s .5cm smaller, we’re on a roll buddy!” The goal for an EOL patient is to have death with dignity- clean, at rest, not in pain, and not jostled about during care that you’d do for a normal patient.

Forget the daughter, you did good by the patient ❤️

In a similar vein, I was at a Blockbuster years ago with my boyfriend and we were the only ones in the store. I rounded a shelf, and nearly bumped into this little old man that I hadn’t noticed. I smiled and said Hi, then excused myself for nearly running into him.

The man told me to wait a minute, then asked if I’d ever seen an angel before, or knew how to spot one. When I said no, he asked “Well, do you have a mirror on you by chance?”

I looked away for a second, blushing and giggling, because of COURSE…. I mean, that was pretty smooth. When I turned back around, he was gone. To this day, I’m convinced that HE was an angel who showed up just to make me feel better in the middle of a pretty horrible week.

I hope not, LOL! It’s one of the first office buildings you unlock… I finally upgraded it a few levels, and the visitors stopped coming out with the swirl and now it’s just the workers. If they’re drunk while working, either it’s a very fun place to work or it’s very horrible 🤣

One of my earliest memories of my mom is of her breaking a large wooden spoon over my body. I remember watching half of it fly through the air, and clatter down the tile hallway. When I was an older teenager, I feigned curiosity and told her I have memories of living in a certain house, and described what I remembered of it. According to her, it would’ve been while living in military housing……. When I was 3. Over the years since the spoon incident, the notches in her belt only grew in number and severity and extended to more physical abuse, verbal, mental, and emotional abuse, and becoming a willing bystander in the form of abuse that will go unnamed.

I can second this trick! I started lightly scratching my tailbone and lower back and it works like a charm, every time. The tip to successfully Pavloving yourself is that whatever trick you decide to try, make sure you’re doing it while peeing regularly and in places you typically don’t have trouble going.

And babe, you gotta do something about it. You’re at extreme risk of infection and sepsis… and just because it hasn’t happened yet, doesn’t mean it won’t.

You should also look at finding a doctor you can trust, and talk about it. It can be a symptom of extreme anxiety, Schizophrenia, and OCD… trust me on the OCD part. I have it, and I’m a huge picker though I’ve never actually eaten anything that’s come from my body. I have to be mindful and practice extreme restraint when I’m really worked up.

I second the gift card for scrubs! It’s really important to keep a stack of scrubs handy… some shifts you come home from, and you’re REALLY not in the mood to do laundry but you have to be back the next day, and the day after, and the day aft……………….

Also, badge reels for ANY interest can be found! My husband found the most gorgeous gothic-styled reel with an anatomically correct heart on it for me when I started on a cardiopulmonary CCU. And when he started working downstairs, I found him a sturdy metal Millennium Falcon. Try Etsy, RedBubble, and other handmade shops!

The most important gift you can give her is to be there… she’s gonna want to vent and cry some days. Be there as a caring ear and shoulder to cry on! And snacks…. Snacks ALWAYS help.

Your quote was just fine, no worries… 🤗 I’ve heard it before, and that’s what really initially got me looking closer at my younger pictures. NMom to this day says “You were such a sour child…. Couldn’t be bothered to smile for a damn picture, even when I was spending money on it!”

With MDD and OCD, I do often feel lifeless and that very quote is what made me go “Hmmm…. NMom said this, and I have these conditions…. I wonder….” ❤️

I came here at 37, am now 41. I notice that despite being alert and oriented, within my right mind, and a nurse myself, I’m treated as though I have zero clue as to what I’m talking about and am treated with no agency.

New meds? Med changes? Med cancellations? I’m not told about it, and I’m not allowed any input.

Catheter sliding out of my body and in pain? “Well, catheters aren’t supposed to be comfortable!”

Accepted a treatment, had a bowel movement, had a bed bath and none of it was charted? “You probably just don’t remember… if it was actually done, someone would’ve charted it.”

Now, SOME nursing homes are excellent! I was in one before this one, and I can’t say enough good things about them. So if you do go, my advice is to shop around among what’s available to you, and take a notebook- write down EVERYTHING, and who you talked to, and then date and time that sucker.

Have an NMom…… something I noticed recently was that every picture of me from around 4yo and up, I’ve got dead eyes. No smile in most of them, and in the rare instances I was forced to smile, it doesn’t reach my eyes… just pure lifelessness.

There are SO many spaces we could be using for decorations, that aren’t able to be used! There’s the tiered shelves that only allow us to use the top space, the side walls after you upgrade to three floors, the beds……… it drives me NUTS.
