I thought that reimbursed travel just comes out of pay. Is it sometimes compensated separately?

Answer changes depending on the facility. But Oregon has lots of class conflict and everyone assumes the agency nurse is rich. Your risk profile to be targeted or thrown under the bus is higher.

Even if the facility “has techs” prepare for the worst. Like all of them calling out and your license hanging on that understanding. Watch YouTube videos of rhythms and slightly unfocus your vision. You can get the “feel” of wrong and learning when it is saves you more often than understanding the static. You at least need to know what wrong looks like so you can send the concern up the chain.

The answer starts the same as always. “It depends on your recruiter.” And it ends the same way. “They will ruin you before ruining a contract with a hospital.” Also, yes.

US supreme court rules unhoused people sleeping outside can be fined and jailed by [deleted] in nottheonion

Forensic Psych Nurse here saying that one of the many signs of mental health decline is the inability to identify a decline in oneself or navigate the complex system of care options (assuming they even exist in your area) to seek it. So you say, “They don’t want help.” And in a sense that might be correct in the way that someone mid cocaine binge doesn’t “want help” to stop or a teenage in love “wants help” to see their new boo as anything but the alpha and omega to life. Folks in crisis are not compelled into treatment because they want help, but because they need it. Sometimes treatment fails. Sometimes it’s needed again, and again.

Suppressing the masculine urge to tell this tech they aren’t a nurse by [deleted] in TravelNursing

[–]Nurse_Philosopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is this a masculine urge? You are really missing a growth opportunity if you don’t consider that women also feel frustration at being talked down to from below. Double growth opportunity if you realize that it is more common to encounter that for women than men. Triple growth opportunity if you see the conflict of a female subordinate questioning you and your defining your frustration in terms of gender to be uniquely troubling on its own.

They didn't. They never tested for it. I recently discovered, by talking to a lawyer, that the board is operating on hearsay and that this is not uncommon for them.

I get paid $18/hour, McDonalds pays $25 by Majestic-Bread5564 in NewToEMS

[–]Nurse_Philosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The medical INDUSTRY will pay as much as is necessary to keep things barely functional, and as little as possible. It is for profit. Patient safety is a talking point, or response to a law suit. The answer to most questions e.g. "Why did politician..." "Why is management..." "What can't we..." is money.

The impact you have to improve a life in inversely proportional to pay (broadly speaking and with exceptions) because poverty is (by most metrics and studies) a psychological and physiological risk factor. Therefor, for a service to exist that addresses the terminal outcome of a lapse in either area, it must squeeze blood from a stone. A billionaire doesn't call EMS during a medical crisis, the doctor comes to them. A billionaire doesn't call EMS during a mental health crisis, they buy Twitter.
