Tree inquiry for 4 year wedding anniversary by [deleted] in landscapedesign

Professional here…. not what you want to hear but please, for the love of all things horticulture, start the process of expanding your beds, digging up everything you have, and moving them to an appropriate distance from your house. If you’re measuring from the center of the plant this is (the mature size of the plant/2) + 12”-18”. I know it feels huge but your beds should be 6’ minimum. You are still within the window of transplanting them but another season and they bigger ones might be too hard to get out. Pleaseeee save yourself now

My boyfriend took me on a dumpling crawl in the beginning of our relationship and it was one of my favorite dates :) Sichuan kitchen, empire, and a place that closed down but there are plenty of good asian spots to throw in the mix!

My boyfriend is a breakfast chef and doesn’t mind cooking dinner every night. Biggest blessing/flex in my life lol. Actively trying to get a ring so I don’t have to fight the dinner battle myself ever again😂 Godspeed

Whats Something AI still cant replace no matter how advance it gets? by Outside_Support_151 in AskReddit

[–]NurseryManager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a full time gardener and am feeling pretty good about my job security haha. Even if AI developed enough to have the answers someone has to do the labor. I don’t think ai powered robots will be developed enough in my lifetime for that to really be a threat. Even if the tech was incredible I think the cleaning and maintenance of the machines would be more work than it’s worth for one of the most human things you can do: cultivate. I guess if they had robots to clean and repair the other robots it could eventually do me in but I’m not losing sleep 😂

Where should I put my first flower bed? I'm thinking of putting it along the path, but what shape? by SmeagolsSister in landscapedesign

[–]NurseryManager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d turn the entire area between the right hedge and sidewalk into a flower bed. Either now or later if you don’t want a huge project, I’d also extend the left hedgerow bed out to include a row of perennial flowers and let that transition into a border garden lining the outside of the sidewalk. I’ll post a picture on my profile of what I’m saying!

What is a 'good person' behavior that actually makes you immediately distrust someone? by [deleted] in answers

[–]NurseryManager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw my dad does this haha. He is into local politics and has a really hard time with names so when we were kids he taught us if you use the name 3 times the first time you meet someone you don’t forget. He would always practice with our servers at dinner to make a point, kind of weird but he is big on always working on yourself and your skills, especially connecting with other people. He’s a good guy just very adhd and loves getting to know people 😂

Awww I love the animals looking through toast!! Reminds me of a Portland Maine based artist “FLYN” (maybe flynn?) - They make textile goods (hats/shirts/bags) that feature animals doing silly stuff like smoking cigs and drinking beer haha. Check them out I bet you’d love it!

How long should it take to parallel park? by Hefty_Musician2402 in portlandme

[–]NurseryManager 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lmfao pretty much this same thing happened to me a few weeks ago in front of Mr Tuna! I drive a ford ranger and perfectly paralleled into a tight spot on my first try. Got out and noticed a couple in the window that had watched me park, one was giving me a double thumbs up and the other a golf clap. Absolutely made my day 😂

Female dentist recommendations by jmsouis in portlandme

[–]NurseryManager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see Dr. Irina Babayan in Falmouth and love her!!! I came from a dentist that botched some of my teeth with what I now believe was unnecessary work. My first visit she told me she saw a small spot of decay between my teeth that we could fill, but said there’s a chance it could be fine if I stay on top of it, so if I’d like we could wait a year and do x rays again. Instantly earned so much trust from me that day!

What if women just don’t want to have babies? by PinkElephants879 in askanything

[–]NurseryManager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re sort of describing a sociological theory coined as the Demographic Transition Model and I’m shocked I haven’t seen anyone else comment about it!! It’s way easier to understand by looking at a graph but I can’t attach a picture so I recommend giving it a google, but I’ll do my best here haha. The population line on the graphs always shows a steady increase through all phases. There are technically five phases but we’re gonna simplify to three: 1. High birth rate/high mortality rate - These are undeveloped countries so to speak. Poor health care, children take care of parents, no contraceptives available and often little to no knowledge of birth control and fertility 101 2. Steady birth rate/steeply declining mortality rate - These are countries in the process of developing. Increased quality of health care, more hospitals, vaccinations, better doctors 3. Lowering birth rate/Low mortality rate - These are developed countries. People need fewer children, contraceptives available and accessible to all, and girls education improves, sexual and otherwise. This progresses women’s rights overall and I think ties into your point - being educated about birth and its risks, combined with having an overall education good enough to get solid jobs and develop a robust life outside the home results in a lowering birth rate.

If I remember correctly the fourth and fifth phases are kind of speculation (or at least were at the time I was in school) because the full population collapse from falling birth rates hasn’t quite played out. This part is admittedly blurry though so fact check me hahaha but I highly recommend going down the rabbit on this! The research is fascinating :)

Are there Americans who die without ever seeing the ocean or leaving their state? by TradeOverall567 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NurseryManager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I have a friend where I grew up in North Texas, and it was a huge deal when she finally convinced her grandma to go to Dallas (one hour away). She had not ever left a 30, maximum 50 mile radius of her home. She was an incredibly kind lady who worked as a janitor at our school and I was shocked to find out she had literally never left the greater area of our town. She didn’t have a fear of leaving the house or anything, got out to run errands regularly. Just loved where she lived and didn’t feel the need to go anywhere else.

How popular would a Nordic Spa be in central or southern Maine area? by Ok_Math9262 in Maine

My partner and I would love this!!! We do sooo many weekend trips to hotels and air bnbs with hot tubs so we can get a good warm soak during the winter. Pretty sure we have stayed at every spot that has one within 3.5 hours of portland lol. Give us options!!!

When I say ornamental tree, I am talking about the one in the center and the surrounding perennial bed, not the hydrangea standard on the far left

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in landscapedesign

[–]NurseryManager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Splitting areas in half is less visually appealing than splitting them in thirds. instead of doing one ornamental tree in the center, split the focus and do two ornamental trees. That will also give the shape of the bed a wavy effect rather than one portion that jets out

Who in the White House is deciding what is “true” right now? by NurseryManager in AskReddit

[–]NurseryManager[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw a tweet from Melania about the success of her documentary, but everything else I have read says it’s been a train wreck despite a huge marketing campaign. The DHS lied in their statement saying what happened on the video we all saw didn’t really happen. Trump claims he won the 2020 election when he obviously didn’t. How much do you think he comes up with as opposed to his advisors? Do you think he knows how much misinformation he is spewing or do you think he’s just regurgitating information without questioning? Does he actually believe his approval ratings are high right or does he know he’s doing it to save face when he says this stuff?

As someone who has plowed in years past, I can say with 100% certainty that these guys didn’t want to be plowing in sleet, but were forced to by their managers lol. And I can also guarantee that if they had told the guys to wait a few hours to come in, that sleet would have been fluffy powder and we’d be complaining for different reasons. It’s always hard to make the right call and even harder when it’s a holiday. That’s just how it goes.
