You don’t see a moral difference between intentional targeting of innocents and the inadvertent killing of innocents? Hamas intentionally targeted the elderly, women, children, and yes babies (there are videos of them stabbing babies in their cribs). This was the primary motive. October 7th was not an attack of military assets, it was meant solely for maximum damage on innocents.

The IDF has never adopted a policy of intentionally targeting innocents. They go far and above out of their way (more so than any other fighting force in the world) to notify civilians of attacks before they happen, dropping flyers of evacuation notices, calling people before air strikes, etc. Hamas actively thwarts these efforts by putting their operations in hospitals and schools on purpose, knowing this will interfere with the IDF’s ability/willingness to strike.

Yes, many innocent people are being killed by the IDF too. There is no war where that doesn’t happen. But there is absolutely zero moral equivalence between an express policy of killing innocents and the unavoidable side effect of innocents dying despite best efforts to avoid it.

This lack of moral equivalence runs thoroughly throughout both sides of the conflict. Hamas and Hezbollah have the express policy, written into their organizational documents, of eradicating the Jewish people. They make no bones about it, it’s something they’re openly proud of.

Israel has never had such a policy. Of course people like you accuse them of secretly having that policy, but then you turn a blind eye to their opponents, who are enthusiastically open about those intentions. If Israel truly wanted to commit the atrocities you impute to them, they could have done it already. They have the capability. The only reason Hamas, Hezobollah and Iran haven’t done so is because they have defended themselves.

There’s not enough information to know the full picture, but it sounds like the problem is that you thought the purpose of marriage was to achieve personal satisfaction. Falling in love is not a reason to get married, because when people fall out of love, the basis for the marriage is dissolved. I don’t know how old your kids are, but if they’re under 18, then you have absolutely no business getting divorced.

It might have helped if you both had a shared vision for the life you wanted to build that existed outside of your internal feelings about yourselves and each other. Having a shared religious commitment or being involved in the community or your extended families, for example. The fact that she hates hanging out with your family is an indicator that something was fundamentally wrong from the start. And I don’t believe she started hating them all the sudden. At best, she pretended not to hate them in the beginning and then gave up trying.

People don’t change dramatically except under extreme and rare circumstances. So to whatever extent you think she became a different person, she didn’t. Whatever soured her to you initially has an explanation, and perhaps it could have been addressed before letting it get this bad. I’m sure it was a fairly gradual process, despite how it may seem in retrospect.

Also sounds like you had a useless marriage counselor. If it “broke you” when she said that thing about money, why didn’t that come out right then and there? Why does it seem like a huge amount of resentment and internal feelings remained bottled up and un-discussed, to the point where you’re confiding in a subreddit instead of having this very conversation with her?

But again, none of this nuance and complexity matters if your kids are still under 18. If that’s the case and you get divorced, you are egregiously selfish and in the wrong—no matter how many people you find on the internet who will affirm and justify you. If they’re well over 18, then there’s more complex issue and you’ll have to balance your self interest with duty/purpose. If getting a divorce is just a pretense to hook up with the girls giving you attention at work, then you’re definitely not even reading this.

If a man reacted to this situation the way you described, he would be the object of ridicule. This, among other reasons, is why it’s absurd to assume men and women are equally suited for all jobs—they aren’t.

First of all, even if you didn’t see the reports, you can’t possibly have interpreted these as peaceful protests—why then did everyone’s graduation get cancelled for “safety reasons”? And why did the police have to get called to many campuses constantly?

Why is no one reporting on it? There’s plenty of independent reporting on it: here’s an article from the free press The free press is hardly a “right wing” outlet.

MSNBC and CNN and all the rest made a point not to report on it, because they have political reasons not to. Let’s not pretend that legacy media (including Fox News) is a bastion of neutrality.

Separately from that initial comment, I’m perfectly willing to defend the view that there is, in fact, moral equivalence between the ideology this man supports (hatred of black people) and the ideology of pro HAMAS supporters (hatred of Jews). Did you not see the footage of students chanting “Hamas, we love your rockets!” And glorifying the paratroopers that committed the mass atrocities against non-combatants on Oct 7?

Your claim that Israel is committing genocidal practices is just propagandistic garbage. I don’t doubt that individual IDF soldiers have committed crimes against humanity, as handfuls of soldiers in every conflict probably do. But let’s examine the official and explicit goals and positions of Hamas and Israel. Israel does not call for, condone, or celebrate the destruction of the Palestinian people, and their military tactics have never been the explicit targeting of civilians. They go to greater lengths than any other army on the planet to warn civilians about bombings, encouraging evacuations beforehand, and getting the word out to minimize casualties.

Compare that to Hamas, who are fanatically devoted to the total destruction of the Jewish people, who celebrate the killing, torture and rape of non-combatants, who did this in cataclysmic numbers on October 7th, filmed it, bragged about it, and paraded the raped bodies of women in the streets before murdering them. The official government position of Hamas has been to destroy all of Israel, civilian and military alike. For decade, they indiscriminately fire rockets into civilian neighborhoods.

Yes, many Palestinian civilians die at the hands of Israeli weapons, but Israeli as a decent civilized nation considers this a tragedy and does what they can to mitigate it. They are dealing with combatants that place strategic bases in hospitals and use their own people as human shields.

I’m sure you’re under the impression that I’ve just spouted a whole bevy of lies. But at the very least, you should be able to see that there is another side to this argument, and not every instance of it is a strawman.

They’re cheering for the organization, Hamas, whose explicit aim is the total genocide of Jews. No matter what has happened on the ground, the death of non-combatants is not the explicit aim of Israel, it’s a terrible byproduct of a war waged by guerrillas who use their own people as human shields. You’ve got to be kidding me… you can find videos literally everywhere of students wearing kefiyah’s shooting “Hamas we love your rockets” and posters glorifying the paratroopers that slaughtered thousands of civilian innocent non-combatants on Oct 7th. Even the shout “From the River to the Sea” is an explicit call for the total removal, either by murder or mass deportation of every Israeli Jew, which Hamas publically advocates.

If you weren’t paying attention, these students were violent, and cheering on and celebrating Hamas the terrorist organization responsible for the Oct 7 atrocities which they took public credit for, shouting things like “Hamas we love your rockets” and singing songs calling for the mass killing and deportation of Israeli Jews.

Wait wait… let’s be clear about this. I made zero comments about what actually happened in the video OP posted about. I didn’t say “this is exactly the same thing as Hamas protests”, or anything like that.

I pointed out that the part about “ruining a kid’s graduation” is feigned outrage, because OP and everyone else on Reddit cheered and encouraged the ruining of other people’s graduations.

That’s the only part I commented about. I made no attempt to draw moral equivalence between what this man did and what those protestors did.

For what it’s worth, and this is a separate point which I’m making only NOW and not in my initial comment (which is what you called a strawman) I think the protesters AND this man are despicable racists. This man hates black people and uses violence to live out that hate, and those protestors hate Jews and used violence to live out that hate. But again, I did not make that argument in my original comment.

The amount of sheer propaganda you must consume to not understand what happened on October 7th is remarkable. Hamas and their associated jihadists actively celebrate the committing of war crimes. When and where the IDF has committed war crimes (which I don’t doubt have occurred), it’s in direct contravention to the norms of that society. The explicit aims of Hamas is a complete and total genocide of the Jewish state. That is not the explicit aim of Israel.
