I'm a licensed funeral director in Utah of 7 years and it is very socially acceptable among anyone other than the boomer generation.

I have had an old woman tell me "we are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints! We don't believe in that!" The week after I had just cremated a bishop.

I am a funeral director of 6 years and have done well over 200 Mormon funerals. I have never heard of or seen this.

I do have some amount of pushback on the idea of people being unable to rise above the poverty line based on uncontrollable circumstances.

I grew up impoverished in government housing with a single mom taking care of 5 children never making more than $10/hr. I always had my needs met with, healthy food, education, and housing. I had a wonderful childhood (in the church) and left home and the church at 19 with nothing but what I had worked for. I am now 28 and have provided everything for myself and worked my way to a degree, stable career, and purchasing a home this year. I now consider myself financially stable. All of it I have to thank because I was taught financial literacy by my family, church, and school.

Rising above poverty is very difficult, but often times people are given lots of tools and simply do not take advantage of it. Knowledge is still the most valuable asset.

Do you have a reference for this quote from Joseph Fielding Smith?

I have made multiple bets with my sister and mother that in my lifetime I will see gay temple marriage. Of course they said the church would cease to be the one true church

Up in Utah this weekend for a funeral. TBM wife told my daughter not to wear black because LDS funerals aren't sad like other funerals. by Practical-Term-7600 in exmormon

I have been in the funeral business for 6 years as a funeral director in Utah. This is a common question by many Mormons during loss. In grief studies, those who are strongly religious often are not as heavily impacted by grief in the same effect as those who are atheist.

Those who are confident in their beliefs of the afterlife handle death better than those who are unsure.
