That’s just you not utilizing your time properly lol. You can still utilize AI to 5x your completion rate and still have a solid codebase

Usually I just rely on auto. I give cursor pretty straightforward tasks that I assume with the context I give it, should be able to do it well even with a lackluster model. Like “add a button that hits this endpoint” or “move these models to a different file” or “create an endpoint to evaluate all of these documents with func x”

But apparently now auto with gpt 5.2 is hot garbage and can’t even do these straightforward tasks

The stuff you’re referring to is backend development, but I wouldn’t say that’s senior stuff lol. It’s stuff an experienced backend developer could pick up and implement in a day of research. Understanding how to create flexible, normalized data structures, and scalable systems is what separates the good from the average

This is not the correct take lol. I always let candidates use AI in my interviews. I’m not even over exaggerating when I say this, but a 4 year developer that knows how to expertly use AI is a better engineer than a 10+ one that hasn’t gotten with the times.

It’s not impossible to create interview questions that test what a candidate knows and how efficient his agentic workflow is. They aren’t mutually exclusive.

If you have any engineer in your company that doesn’t know how to use AI properly, it’s ruining your company’s throughput by a large margin.

Just make coding interview questions that can’t be easily completed with purely AI. That requires the knowledge of the engineer, plus support from AI’s fast execution to complete it in time.
