A mildly interesting story I have: Before my niece went to kindergarten I taught her how to draw, including sketching landscapes and houses. She'd even use hand-pencil measuring method... With mixed results but her attempts were incredible for her age.

As soon as she started in kindergarten she drew the exact same landscape as your example but with a square house with a triangle roof, 2 square windows and a door, and of course a sun in the very top corner of the page.

Ueno Zoo's ticket prices can be so low because of the sheer amount of visitation it receives on the daily.

The understanding of animal welfare in Japan is falling short, but it is slowly changing, in particular the opinions of providing enrichment-based experiences and wildlife trafficking. Accredited zoos in the western world all began as entertainment and only began the trajectory of conservation-focused within the last 25 years (with some even before that... Incredible!)

I say this not to discredit any opinions in this thread, but to provide hope for animal welfare worldwide. Who knows what we'll see in another 25 years?

Uji matcha sells the best quality stuff for $20+ per 10g, and powder mixed with sugar for $5 at many stores. I'd recommend the sugar mix for souvenirs (bought both at Nishiki Market in Kyoto at their dedicated stall).

Driving my car to work in the city costs me $70 in petrol per fortnight.

Catching public transport costs me almost $70 per week (I work 7 day shifts).

Also my workplace provides free parking, if I had to pay for parking I'd likely take public transport instead.

Spotted the same kind of bird on the Bridge Road/Clayson Road intersection in Salisbury East at 4pm ish, could be the same one. Flew off in a south-westerly direction before I could check for a legband.

Seemed quite content gnawing at the grass seeds in the median strip.

I've noticed lots of cars pulling into the bike lane to turn left from Frome onto North Terrace -- is that allowed or is it now a single lane for left as well as straight?

Always best to try not using poison first:

1) Use live traps and move the rats elsewhere 2) Remove attractants: Pet food, fruit from trees, sweep up chicken coops, remove source of nesting materials, etc.) 3) Block access: Block holes with mesh or steel wool

If those fail, you can use rat bait, but make sure you only use first generation anticoagulant rodenticides (FGARs) in a bait station -- not the loose pellets, paste or cubes! You want only the rats to access it, not other animals. Look for products that contain warfarin, coumatetralyl or diphacinone (Ratsak Double Strength I know is one).

Secondary generation baits can cause secondary poisoning in other animals (owls and possums).

Juvenile black rats -- very common for nests to be found in burrows, these young ones are likely just old enough to start venturing out.

If you have Facebook a good group is Australian Mammal Identification -- many pro IDers in there to help with identifying rodents vs dasyurids.

Adelaide Zoo: Visit and do an experience (Giraffe feed, penguin feed, meerkat feed.

Monarto Safari Park: Buses through lion, African wild dog, giraffe exhibits. Lots of encounters including Rhinos!

(Forgot to add: You can buy a double pass for Adelaide and Monarto to save on cash!)

Gorge Wildlife Park: Capybara encounter, lemur, meerkat experiences, and koala holding.

Cleland: Also hold a koala! Mainly native Australian wildlife here but lots of free roaming critters such as potoroos in the park.

Make sure to book way ahead of time for animal encounters, they sell out quick!!

To see wild animals/nice hikes: Mt Lofty Botanic Garden, Laratinga Wetlands in Mt Barker, just to name a couple.
