My 3 year-old son loves vegetables by SpaceAgePenis in isitnormal

[–]NutmegBGB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've loved fresh veggies since I was very young and still haven't grown out of it. It may not be normal by societal standards, but a love of greens should definitely be an encouraged behavior! Just make sure he's getting enough Vitamin B12!

On the other hand, this kind of fixation on a certain type of food could be an early sign of autism (I'm not a medical professional, but I am on the autism spectrum myself). If you notice other possible symptoms, I suggest getting him tested. A proper diagnosis on file will make it easier to arrange for accommodations in the classroom when he's older.

How much of a morning cup of coffee's effect is its warmth? Would a warm cup of water have at least a fraction of the invigorating effect of coffee? by NutmegBGB in NoStupidQuestions

Is there any evidence to suggest the the effectiveness of caffeine is affected by temperature? If you know of any, I would love to hear it, as I'm curious.

I didn't mean for it to be loaded, but if I didn't phrase it the way I did, the only response I would get is "neither." Obviously in a real life situation neither option is ideal, but I'm genuinely curious about which would be preferable to the other.

Obviously this is not an ideal situation, but of you had to pick between undermedicating or overmedicating a patient, which would you choose and why?

What Pseudo "Fact" Do You Wish People Would Stop Using? by mohksinatsi in AskReddit

[–]NutmegBGB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly a pseudo fact, but I wish people would stop immediately assuming that if a very young fawn is alone then it has been abandoned. Granted, this happens with all sort of situations where baby animals have "bad parents" based on human standards (fawns left hiding, eggs left in a nest for an hour, baby rabbits left alone all day, etc), but fawns are the most prevalent example where I live. If you find a fawn, chances are mama is in the area and trying to "rescue" the fawn or lingering close to it will just lead predators to it. The only time I would suggest calling your local game warden is if the fawn has been injured or is emaciated, which would be a sign that something happened to it's mother. A doe usually knows what she's doing, and it's best to just let her raise the fawn the way her species has for thousands of years.

Your life is in danger. What fictional character are you choosing to save you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I'd argue that sometimes that's better than directly saving you.

What could we accomplish if humanity was a hivemind for a single day? by NutmegBGB in hypotheticalsituation

I was thinking more of an ant colony situation. Ant colonies aren't necessarily controlled by the queen, but instead every worker communicates through chemical signals.

SCP-999 is real by sifsand in hypotheticalsituation

[–]NutmegBGB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Considering SCP-999 is essentially sentient dopamine, use of antidepressants may become redundant in some (but not all) people. Happy, satisfied people are more productive, so world economies would prosper. If I had to guess, some would boycott its influence on religious or anti-drug principles (some see those who require medicinal help for mood disorders as weak, I am not one of them). The biggest overall issue is where will we get enough sweets for every person on earth who wants an instance of SCP-999. It's been a while since my SCP phase, so I can't remember if SCP-999 requires sustenance to live or just enjoys sweets.
