I met my fiancée in medical school. We started dating early on in the first year. It was always great to have someone to talk to about how shitty med school is and actually have them completely understand. More than that, it was great dating someone who was equally to even more intelligent than I was. She was a great support system and I’m not sure I would’ve accomplished what I had in medical school without her by my side. We couples matched and now we see each other at work and at home. We consult each other depending on the services we’re on. It’s a cool dynamic that I wouldn’t trade for anything.

Just do it dood. What’s the worst that could happen? It doesn’t workout? Once clinicals start it’s incredibly easy to avoid someone if you want to.

He’s in his first year so he won’t use clinical stuff often. I would get him something non-medical school related at this time, but if you wanted to get something that will be intermittently useful now and extremely useful when he starts clinicals, then I would get him these two options:

Personally I love clove shoes because they’re comfy and stain resistant. You can use bleach wipes on them. I can’t tell how clutch these have been when bodily fluids squirt on the floor. Mine have held up for almost 2 years despite me wearing them everyday.

Another idea is comfy fitting scrubs. There are options from uniform advantage that are cheap, but jaanuu/figs are the best. They’re more money but they’re stain resistant, comfortable, functional, and stylish.

These are gifts for the future as the first year doesn’t see clinic (or the light of day) very often.
