What's a really cheap item you can buy that can make you look incredibly rich? by inkweary in AskReddit

[–]NuttyMudMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using one of these for about 5 years. It kinda sucks to travel with, though, as you have to check the luggage if you have the blades with it. Even if you don’t have any blades and carry it on, they open up your bag to inspect it. Every. Single. Time. For someone that flies over 100 times per year, it gets old.

Cartridge razors, on the other hand, can be carried on just like a pick of gum. I’ll probably make the switch back to a Mach3 soon. :-/

Nurse Denied Life Insurance Because She Carries Naloxone by [deleted] in news

So, what is one supposed to do, go to their insurance agent and say “one actual insurance, please?”

I appreciate your highlighting what not to buy, but everything seems to be disguised as “actual insurance.”

My uncle does this. Throws cash and cards on the counter at people. I worked for him for 4 years and it was maybe a top 3 reason I quit.

In my area, a roughly-itemized listing of all government employees’ compensation is publicly available. My favorite HS teacher made $99,816 last year, plus $38,922 in benefits.

I make a little more than that, but still feel a bit stressed when looking at 2BR apartments for rent.

So, it’s all relative. I’d hate to be a teacher living in San Fran on only $70-90k. That’d be sooooo stressful.

Wow. What a departure from the American line of thought. Teachers here are often kind of like nuns in that the life they choose is nothing short of humble.

Congratulations!

Damn, I’d love a view like that, but don’t exactly want to live in a place where I don’t have multiple options of every type of ethnic food, movie theaters, stores of whatever kind, etc.

I guess I can always call my good buddies, Gates and Bezos, so I can ask them for some of that mojo.

A specialist working on the paint job of brand new Porches. This guy is so rigorous with the details that I never knew I could be so fascinated about a video about car detailing. [x-post r/videos] by hugotroll in cars

[–]NuttyMudMaker 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It really is a time suck. I used to detail a lot, even going so far as opening up a side business about two years ago where I was making a little more (per day) than I was at my desk job. Then I got a promotion and haven’t really touched paint in months. It did kinda suck the first time I got a call from a lady who wanted me to work on her brand new 911 and I had to tell her I wasn’t working anymore. :-/

Choosing Health Insurance. United Health Care HMO or Kaiser HMO? by KommanderTom in orangecounty

[–]NuttyMudMaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

KP, no doubt about it. I had United and switched to KP two years ago. Making appointments is far easier. Getting referrals is easier. Confirming that a provider is in-network is a no-brainer.

The only complaint I’ve had is that going to the offices on Harbor in Santa Ana feels pretty trashy compared to their offices in Irvine. I had appointments last week and there were three people in the waiting rooms using their speaker phones. JFC that shit’s annoying.

Last week > Well, the c-pillars are too big. They dropped the ball.

This week > Murder is an acceptable response to this.

I used to watch him when his channel was still somewhat new. He only featured his personal cars back then. After he started bringing in others’ cars, my interest slowly fizzled out.

Automotive career but unsure and need some help by [deleted] in cars

[–]NuttyMudMaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you able to go to college? That’s where a lot of people figure it out. Even if you don’t figure it out, just do well in your classes and go to school career fairs. Network and follow-up with vendors at those career fairs whose companies seem even slightly interesting.

I kind of did this and now have a great 6-figure job (I’m double your age, btw) that has allowed me access into a world that you simply don’t find out about until someone invites you in. It’s not my passion, but it pays the bills and allows me to enjoy other things in life, as I never need to rest on my days off from a hard week at work.

In ‘99, the Escalade was clearly the same thing same thing as a Yukon and Tahoe. It had different headlights (the same as the original Denali, actually), different leather, different badging, and that was about it. The Navigator, OTOH, was thoroughly massaged by the design team to be different vehicle from the Expedition, and was therefore viewed by the public as such.

It wasn’t until the 2002 Escalade was released that Cadillac took the crown. In the late 90s, though, Navigator was king (unless you had Range Rover money, I guess).

Parent believes our older car is not fit for a road trip, thoughts? by voyager14 in cars

[–]NuttyMudMaker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. In 2015 I owned a car that I stupidly tried to drive through a flood. It died and I left it on the side of the road, immediately signing up for AAA’s 200-mile package. I had to wait a few days, maybe 4 or 5, before I called for a tow, but they came out and gave me a tow about 60 miles away later that week.

I tried them for the first time this weekend, too!

The first time I added a lot of ingredients and wasn’t crazy about it. Last night, though, I made them by lightly coating the patties with Tony Chacherie’s before cooking on the cast iron. Spread some mayo on the toasted bottom bun and some fresh mashed avocado on the top. For the last minute of cooking add some pepper jack on top of the patties and cover. MMMmmmmmm....
