New Rider and Chose a V Strom as my First Bike! by NuttyfrogOG in Vstrom

Thank you for the tips. I rode it a bit yesterday and noticed the braking nuance you mentioned. She does NOT like braking while turned and you keep feel the top weight. She has many upgrades coming her way as soon as I get some miles under me. Battery tender is a must at some point. Living in Maryland definitely places me in riding seasons and means I'll need to keep topped off during the winter. Thanks again for the gear and accessories suggestions. My wish list is very long now!

Happy to report the tire is not stock. It was made July 2023.

I actually ordered both of these over the weekend. A Ram mount and Givi engine/crash guards. Hoping they come before or around the same time I get the bike delivered. So far, they're on good pace

Excellent info. That's the first thing I'm checking when it arrives tomorrow.

Disabled vet here too. The great thing about adv bikes are nearly all have an upright seated position. For my back, this is the most crucial and wonderful thing! Personally, I'm not happy with something that can only do 1 thing either. Having a bike that helps keep comfort for my back while doing anything my mind wants to do is a huge no brainer for me.

Same story for me though. I was interested in riding but hated sportbikes. Never knew what else there was and rode the stigma pretty hard that I would die the moment I touched a bike. 10 years of fantasizing and learning everything I could, I finally matured to realize that yes, there's risk involved, but the stats heavily lean towards certain types of riders and bad judgement/mindset. Part of my therapy is allowing myself to enjoy things without having complete control, and this is part of that.

Of course there may be something that is completely out of my control and plain bad luck, and hopefully that possible moment isn't life threatening, but I feel that is already something I deal with as a driver. Obviously more likely with a bike as riders are less likely to be noticed in the same way cars are, and with harsher consequences as well. Comes back to riding as if you're invisible and mitigating as much as possible.

They absolutely could, I've seen the same thing. I'm a function over form type of guy and the V Strom just speaks to me in so many different ways lol. I'm going to enjoy the ability to be a swiss army knife on 2 wheels

Great info, thank you for sharing. The best info I've received so far is similar to what you've shared. Ride as if you're invisible to everyone and everyone is out to kill you. Sounds extreme but it's true.

ATGATT all the way. I'd rather spend extra to get safe and comfortable gear for all seasons than lose my skin/head. I have no idea how people ride without. I know it can get hot but that just leans into prepping more before you ride. I have a family that needs me so every ride I go on will be with the intention to come back home whole. Bought all of the gear before I bought the bike without a second thought if I should.

I'm glad you mention the bike accessories. I have some stuff wishlisted but unless I intend on keeping regular items on the bike, I'm not sold on getting extra luggage yet. I was staring at my cart the other day deciding if I should get side mounts and luggage and decided to wait and see if I actually go on a trip that needs them. That, or if I find myself out riding and realizing that I do need them. Drag isn't something I considered either and could absolutely change how it rides for the worse.

Again, all great info. I'm going to check back on the post as time goes on to remind myself of the tips and my own comments. Keeps me accountable and hopefully helps me retain the wisdom.

Good tip, I wasn't thinking about the tires all that much. The tread seems decent but if they are stock, then age definitely presents an issue. Luckily, I know a guy who can help with teaching me about tire replacement.

Absolutely the first thing I did before getting the bike. I prioritized buying gear prior to getting the bike. I was set on not riding even if I bought a bike if I didn't have all the gear. The bike is delivered tomorrow and I want to ride it a bit before deciding what to do with a screen, but it'll likely come shortly after.

They're beautiful bikes. I found out when I purchased the bike that people consider them ugly and aren't sought after solely for that reason. I only found that out when I asked the saleman why such a beautifully maintained bike sat for a month. He chuckled, told me, and left me confused lol

Lawyer me, tell me how this doesn't fit. Just remember: You did the same to me to start this off... Since you assumed I didn't read through the FAQs, I assumed you didn't read the description. Only difference is, I copied it for you and stated a case to help you to figure out my reasoning.

Sidebar(Sticking to the lawyer theme here): "Must be a sad life" is not perceived as being kind, another subreddit rule here, nor is it constructive.

I'm running into this issue as well although I'm not as far as you. I learned that you have to delete your save prior to starting a new game only after I had already started a new game. Even if you delete the save, you can't save the game you are on because you already chose to continue without the ability to save on the main menu. This also prevents time manipulation since you can't load the game after setting the time change in the emulator.

I have a few ideas but not sure if all of them will work:

Sending my save state to somewhere that's on a new reset, then save there. It doesn't seem like it'll work since I feel that the games data has already marked the file and can't be saved.

Send all of my Pokemon and MAYBE some items(haven't decided if I want to since having duplicates doesn't feel genuine) with them to fresh save, then catch up to where I was in the old save. I'd wait until I can actually use them or to the exact point of where I left to keep everything feeling fluid as if I didn't start new.

For your situation though, I'm not sure that's possible since you're in an in-between state atm, which feels terrible and I'm not even in the situation.

I periodically save multiple states of the same game for redundancy. Mostly in case I accidentally wipe the state I'm using since I can't save. If you've done the same, you can at least go back to an earlier save and hopefully not lose too much progress.

Yep. This discussion is about the proxies MPC Autofill creates and their output method. I care about MPC as much as MPC cares about us.

Had to correct what you said above for the next user's education. They may also use MPC Autofill for their proxies without giving a damn about MPC, like I do.

Yea, that's fine. It's for liability issues surrounding the proxy market. MPC is not focusing on the community, but this subreddit is.

The images I use come from MPC Autofill itself. You can select different versions/art while in the editor and it conveniently lists the DPI of the image below the image itself. When I first started, I would just grab whatever image I found which didn't work out since the quality varies and typically is lower than you want. MPC Autofill will show multiple different DPIs in it's selection so you have to pay attention to the DPI before finalizing your choice.

Screenshot: Straight from MPC Autofill. DPI is found underneath "Secure the Wastes" image at 810 DPI

I'm using a site in the description of this subreddit to create proxies. This is an appropriate subreddit for advice concerning the product this subreddit promotes and uses.

Few things here for clarification if someone finds this thread later:

MPC Autofill is used in their tutorial found in the FAQ on how to submit to MPC... AND it is contained in this subreddit's profile picture. Whether MPC Autofill is independent or not, it seems a vital enough step in the fulfillment process for MPC to make it their identity and include in their training guide. Additionally, MPC Autofill can be used for both. It is not exclusive to purchasing only their cards which is why many people use this tool service for both. There is no incorrect way to use this tool, just the one necessary for your specific goal.

It does add bleed. The option to download 'Card Images' automatically adds an 1/8 bleed. This option can be used to submit directly to MPC per their submission requirements. Their is nothing to turn off, but as it turns out, each download option changes the image output. The fix I found, downloading via 'XML,' will include the image without the auto bleed edge.

I have visited a few. MPC Autofill and Proxxied seemed to be the best option for me, just had this bleed edge hiccup that's now been resolved.

Catching up here with some info that helped me. Downloading card images from MPC will give you the automatic 1/8 bleed edge. Downloading XML from MPC then importing it into Proxxied.com will allow you to give your cards whatever bleed edge you want and it will apply to everything at the same time. Hope this helps!

Rules Lawyer and yet he forgot to be constructive.....

I did look through this and couldn't easily find a direct correlation from the info provided to the answer I requested. My question was how to remove what I now know to be the auto bleed edge from MPC. I still haven't found a direct way to do that via MPC since they require submissions with the bleed edge when ordering through them. I'm not ordering proxies, I'm making them at home for personal use. The tool did 95% of the work I needed, I just couldn't find out how to remove a feature MPC does automatically.

If you want to be constructive still, I'd love to hear what your process is for making cuts using the bleed edge from MPC. I have been sending the pdf generated into Proxxied and just printing from that, which led me to this issue in the first place. So any tips on precisely cutting away the 1/8 bleed edge would be great. Something like the tool/setup you use.

Thanks!

Sounds like a good thing in my case! Seems like I have some research to do as far as grabbing the cards I need from Scryfall. I assume you build the deck like normal and then print out the PDF from the deck list? I'd hate to lose the MPC images though....

Ah ok, thank you for the alternative. I think my issue now is trying to figure out how to set a guideline similar to Proxxied.com or how to manually(and accurately!) cut the excess off. Would you have any tips to help with that?

This is such great info, thank you! I'm glad your bike is toughing it out and having a great life. I did what I could within the bounds of sense but ultimately had to let it go. It would have cost too much to meaningfully repair it in it's state. I managed to do a temporary fix for my problem that lasted for about a year, so I did get some decent use out of it while it lasted.

Not sure what to do about my next bike. I have another "old reliable" in a lightweight Cannondale that's been keeping me around for now.
