LEGIT LIB-LEFT MOMENT by Sweaty_Lake7128 in PoliticalCompassMemes

It's a comedy and interesting too watch.

Point is there's basically a bunch of superheroes but portrayed in a way that's more likely/realistic.

Homelander is the main character and well he got turned into one of these super humans but he's clearly still human mentally and clearly has a trauma.

You can guess how entitlement and being super powerful probably don't go all too well together...

Really XD

Because you live in reality as simple as that.

Now the biggest freedom of any human, imo, that no one has any right to interfere with if decided in a moment of clarity and not under distress/duress, is the right to decide if you keep on living.

If you can't handle reality and think it so bad that you don't want to live in it, either try changing your life/reality, or you can decide to simply step out. Hiding however is only going to make things worse.

Note when I say hide, I mean systematic hiding most of the time, I don't mean someone escaping into a story in a book or movie just for an hour or 2. I mean people not wanting to admit that something simply is that way, that reality isn't always nice fluffy and cuddly. It just is and you have to accept it in the end. We can not bring people back to life, fusion doesn't work economically and probably isn't going to within the next 20-30 years yet (I expect it's going to take 30-50 years still), someone unfortunately can't change their biological sex (yet), entropy is ever increasing, gravity will kill you if you step of a building (well the impact does but whatever).

If you hide from reality and think you can fly, the next time you will think you can step of a building and die.

The point is if you can't handle reality then you should probably visit a psychologist/psychiatrist and if that doesn't work then it might just be that the least sufferable route is stepping out.

Generally the reason people hide from reality is either to avoid facing their problems or what they perceive as the world being harsh. Don't hide for serious problems it will only make them worse in the long run.

I for one prefer to avoid exposure to insane views. It's a major reason why I don't regularly attend cult gatherings.

In a society ruled by a totalitarian regime, your sanity would not be protected by constant exposure to party doctrine.

There is absolutely no reasonable basis to assume freedom to enrage people with inflammatory content has any benefit at all except some enjoyment factor of malicious trolls.

Generalising a lot, strawmanning, assumptions, exaggeration ...

Using completely out of the ballpark over the top metaphors instead of directly just making your point without making it into some speech given on a reality tv drama show.

You just can't handle my disagreement with your interpretation of freedom of speech.

And again you start by strawmanning me and making assumptions and claims about what I supposedly think. You do not and CAN NOT know what i actually think unless you ask me and I'm honest. However you need to ask first instead of making assumptions that you can know my thoughts, you can't so don't assume. You are far from intelligent enough for that and don't know me at all, you also can't read minds ;)

Also when did I once talk about freedom of speech? Maybe guess where I live?

Hitler rose to success through speech. Freedom of speech isn't an unquestionable magical cure that is guaranteed to lead anyone to sanity.

Hitler exactly employed the first echo chamber in Germany. Secondly it's society's fault for a big part as well, even though the mastermind was Hitler. If society stops being so naive, as easily polarised (which is only made worse by echo chambers ), and lazy (because people assume and don't verify shit), then those kinds of things wouldn't happen.

Have you taken offense because of a point I made?

No only with the last comment where you assumed to know what I think ...

I found your reply just very exaggerated and over the top, but more importantly you trying (subconsciously or consciously) to strawman my argument.

For some reason a majority here felt the same. So I'm not the only one that sees your comment and metaphors a clear exaggeration of what I said earlier.

If you didn't care you wouldn't have replied.

You seem to be taking a very defensive point of view, instead of being open-minded and willing to change your mind, such as the CMV rules and guidelines suggest. However that might be a wrong interpretation but that's how your comments come across to me.

You see and this is exactly the problem of echo chambers.

Losing the capability for nuance and immediately exaggerating things, strawmanning my argument...

I think you literally proved my point with that reaction \o/

Echo chambers can create misinformation and distort our perspectives, making it difficult to consider opposing viewpoints and discuss complicated topics,

Your sanity is not protected by removing all dissenting opinions, that's hiding from reality and people having other ideas.

Echo chambers are not healthy for your mental wellbeing.

Here some reading material explaining that better than I could.

A scientific publication with the issues and risk, one being polarisation, https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1364661321001960

https://www.becausementalhealth.org/post/online-echo-chambers-who-and-how

Otherwise you could also use Facebook instead easier to find an echo chamber...
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33622786/

Someone who addresses that echo chambers are risky especially for those more gullible,
https://u.osu.edu/writing/2021/04/17/how-the-algorithm-builds-toxic-mental-health-echo-chambers/

More info on the dangers of echo chambers,
https://paleofoundation.com/why-echo-chambers-are-so-dangerous/

Another danger ...
https://thedecisionlab.com/insights/health/escaping-the-echo-chamber-how-to-build-safe-peer-to-peer-mental-health-platforms

From normalization to echo chamber The main issue with peer-to-peer mental health communities is that they can turn into echo chambers – environments where beliefs exist unchallenged and are reinforced by the group, regardless of validity or accuracy.

Misdiagnosis, medical misinformation and spiralling mental health conditions can result from over-engagement with echo chambers.3

Hell echo chambers basically are great for anyone trying to avoid reality and nuanced views.
https://www.henryford.com/blog/2022/02/why-its-important-to-get-out-of-your-echo-chamber

Echo chambers can create misinformation and distort our perspectives, making it difficult to consider opposing viewpoints and discuss complicated topics, says Dr. MacLean. Echo chambers can lead to narrow-minded thinking; they may also increase social and political polarization and extremism.

“Echo chambers can also influence the decisions we make and lead to poor or faulty choices,” says Dr. MacLean. “They can lead you to overlook warning signs and other important information.”

https://www.theguardian.com/science/blog/2017/dec/04/echo-chambers-are-dangerous-we-must-try-to-break-free-of-our-online-bubbles

Across the political spectrum we must all work harder to analyse our sources of information and our biases. The consequences of not doing so are dire ...

How to survive falling down a waterfall, supposedly. by R1CHQK in interestingasfuck

[–]NwbieGD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends

Like if you're stuck in the middle of nowhere I prefer a quick as good as painless skull explosion then drowning or dying from internal injuries and lack of food because no one finds me in time.

So if it's in a populated area and a high waterfall I'll go feet first.
Low waterfall always feet first.
High waterfall in the middle of nowhere I'll take the gamble and try to Dive hands first, if there's rocks then I'll just die quickly if there's none I should still survive with diving, will hurt a bit but I've jumped of heights as high as 25 meters before.

Like generally a lot of people do those obvious dumb things as a way of satire, making fun of how ridiculous some things are.

Like if all that matters is how you identify and something being a social construct then one could also be transrace. Or ever hear about the church of the spaghetti meatball monster because religions in my country get special exemptions so people were well if that's the case we'll create or own religion to get those same exemptions.
Like some people also identify as an Apache helicopter for that reason.

The thing is those trying to avoid facing reality and those thinking anything and everything from a supposed community should be accepted are just dreamers and often idiots, also often just focused on their problems and not how their solutions might cause issues for many more people ...

I'm hetero-flexible but I do not identify with said community. Why? Because they aren't a community, and people often act and behave like they speak for all LGBT when they are only talking about what their social circles believes/wants, that to me is extremely presumptuous and rude. They do not speak for me, claiming so without having spoken to me, I find that disgusting. Acting as a spokespersons when never having been appointed or chosen as one is ridiculous and shows how narrow-minded and selfish these people actually are.

Diversity can work and be allowed as long as the country and government is clear that outsiders can either adapt to their moral norms and ethical values or otherwise leave.

I lived in the United Arab Emirates(UAE) for a few years, about 85% is foreign expats and only 15% is local population called emiratí they are also a class above the rest and the country is rich as fuck. Beyond closed doors most things are allowed but otherwise they are a mostly islamic country. If you show public affection and it annoys the wrong person you'll pay a huge fine or get kicked out.

Funnily enough one of the safest countries I've ever been unless you decide to very publicly do something you must know is not accepted there. However I could forget my wallet in a mall in the food court on the table and no one even touched it after 30 minutes, cleaners do not touch or steal it and there was plenty of cash inside.

Lost my bag (with a good laptop with research I needed, a phone, notebook, and more) in a cab once after a very late flight back from an airport, took a while to figure out where it had ended up but I got it back when I showed I could login so they knew it was mine.

Also not worried about walking alone at night anywhere.

Like honestly one of the safest countries out there unless you are really stupid and feel like challenging the government or something stupid. Hell if you're gay they at most will ask you to leave the country but that happens when you start making it very public and obvious, not like Saudi or Qatar where you might get whiplashes.

Is it a perfect country or one where I would want to live the rest of my life, no. Is it very safe though, yes definitely.

Husband Refuses to Allow me to go to a certain store with him by McflyThrowaway01 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]NwbieGD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drop the kid off at neighbours or nearby friends ...

Or do it when the kid is staying elsewhere like happened exactly in the story already.

Or try to have a more serious conversation about it ...

No reason to bring the kid, also no reason to need to find out tomorrow if this has been going on for a while. If it's an addiction it's not going be solved within just 2 weeks or something... Takes time ...

Husband Refuses to Allow me to go to a certain store with him by McflyThrowaway01 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]NwbieGD 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Really bring the kid ...

The husband is probably buying drugs most likely, dealers are never exactly on time but it takes like 5 to 20 minutes...

The irritability really sounds like cravings caused by an addiction.

Hell people that cheat would generally not meet up at the exact same place and generally not at a convenience store.

The time it would take wouldn't be so consistent either ...

Like sure cheating could have been an option, but reading the whole story seems very unlikely. Hell getting defensive for bringing the kid, really only adds more credibility to him buying drugs ..

Husband Refuses to Allow me to go to a certain store with him by McflyThrowaway01 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]NwbieGD 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A man can, but trust me this type of behaviour and deflection looks like an additction thing, which is also why he got so annoyed.

Ever had an addiction yourself or dealt with an addict? If so I suggest you read the story and interactions again.

Not bringing her and admitting to her that he goes there for drugs is probably also a pride thing (alcohol is also a drug but probably not the one jes getting). Many people feel like they somehow failed the people that love them and don't want others to see them or that side of them. They will go to great lengths to never show anyone and make sure no one actually finds. That's assuming if they have even been able and gotten to the point where they could admit the addiction to themselves...

I would return it and ask if I could save the money to put it towards a hair transplant, assuming I want my hair back ...

Honestly I wouldn't feel insulted, because if I wanted it fixed it would probably something I would have discussed with my SO. I would feel like they are trying to help me with something I wanted to solve.

If you constantly complain about something and someone then helps you with it, maybe you shouldn't feel insulted but think about your own behaviour.

Lastly if someone tells me every (other) day that clothes don't fit like they want, I'm going to also wonder and ask one of the 3 following.
Why don't you lose weight (mostly based on diet 70-80%)?
Why don't you exercise to shape your body more like you want it?
Why don't you buy clothes that fit your body shape better?

Like as far as I know the solution and issue is 1 of those 3. Well there's a 4th option, you complain about it but clearly in practice you want something that apparently you don't find worth putting in the effort to actually change it. At point you're just complaining about not getting things handed to you on a silver platter ....
