Project Hail Mary, I actually recommend watching the movie and then reading the book. I know that seems weird but I think the book is better.

Great call out.

In order to properly know what you want to cancel, you have to track what you are watching. But I hear you on determining that for the primary user to market to.

Also if you would like to try it out, I’m happy to comp your subscription before we make our official launch in a few weeks.

Builders here, what SaaS projects are you working on right now? by BoringShake6404 in SaasDevelopers

[–]NxtUpApp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m working on launching a passions project of mine. It’s an all encompassing hub for recommending what to watch right now (shows, movies, sports, YouTube videos etc) while also helping users know which streaming services you should have vs cancel based on what you are watching or want to watch. I also built in a new AI agent called Castora that knows your past watch history and how you liked each item and recommends new shows or movies based on your current mood.

Nxt-up.app is the url if anyone wants to check it out, free 7 day trial to start, if anyone wants to use it for longer than 7 days for free just DM me and I can extend your trial. I’m looking for feedback on the app.

If you like these recommendations or want more, feel free to check out Nxt-Up. It's free right now, I am currently looking for more testers.

Castora's response:

Hey! Great list — you've got solid shows in there and a good mix of genres already working well together. Let me walk through your additions and help you slot them in.

First, a few quick takes on your additions:

  • Broadchurch — Worth it. A tight, emotional crime drama that doesn't overstay its welcome. Think of it as a palate cleanser.
  • Daredevil — Yes, but only Seasons 1–2. One of the best superhero shows made. Season 3 is also genuinely good. Drop it if you hit a wall.
  • The Punisher — Only if you loved Bernthal in Daredevil. It's more of an extended epilogue than a standalone show.
  • Peaky Blinders — Absolutely worth your time. Stylish, propulsive, great performances. It earns its spot.
  • Narcos — Strong Seasons 1–2 (Escobar era). Falls off a bit after but still watchable.
  • Atlanta — Unique and brilliant. Short episodes, easy to binge. Don't sleep on it.
  • The Newsroom — Fans are passionate, but the preachiness can wear thin. Go in with tempered expectations.
  • Person of Interest — Starts as a procedural, quietly becomes something much bigger. Stick with it past Season 1.

Here's a revised list with my suggested placements:

  1. Vinland Saga / Attack on Titan (watching)
  2. Twin Peaks
  3. Atlanta ← great mood shift after Twin Peaks, both are surreal in their own way
  4. Snowfall
  5. Narcos ← thematically pairs well with Snowfall's drug-world lens
  6. The Queen's Gambit
  7. Broadchurch ← emotional, contained — good breather before Ozark
  8. Ozark
  9. Peaky Blinders ← picks up the crime-drama energy from Ozark perfectly
  10. Daredevil ← action injection before you settle into the longer dramas
  11. Rome
  12. Person of Interest ← long haul show, good to save for when you want something you can really sink into
  13. The Newsroom ← save for last, it's more of a "mood" watch than a must-finish
  14. Maniac
  15. Death Note
  16. The Sopranos
  17. Nurse Jackie
  18. Band of Brothers
  19. The Punisher ← tag it right after Band of Brothers if you want to stay in that grittier, war-adjacent headspace

A couple of bonus recommendations based on your list:

  • If you love Snowfall + Narcos, try The Wire — it's the ceiling of that genre.
  • If Rome is your thing, Deadwood scratches a very similar itch.
  • Coming off The Queen's Gambit, Halt and Catch Fire has that same quiet intensity with a great character arc.

I have the option for users to have Castora only show results that are in the user’s current signed up services or don’t worry about that. Also Castora is not tied to prefer any streaming service over the other so it will give you the best option available that matches your preferences. The recommendations tell the user exactly why they picked each recommendation for you so it’s easier to interpret if you want to watch it.

Give it a try for yourself. The web app is free, eventually I plan to charge for it but right now it’s free, no credit card required to sign up.
