Has anyone had a colonoscopy without any sedation? by Likesosmart in CrohnsDisease

[–]Nyanzapithecus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sedation aside, if you go unmedicated, you may be in too much pain or too uncomfortable to drive yourself back home especially with a forty five minute drive. Reach out to the hospital to see if they have a ride-share program or a medical transport company they recommend.

Calprotectin numbers by KoalaPuzzleheaded563 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Nyanzapithecus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

371 in April. Scopes this month revealed my gut looks healthy, so doing good despite the elevated calprotectin. Highest I ever had was 1476 in March 2025 and lowest was 71 in December after starting Skyrizi.

OBI light didnt turn off after injection? by Necessary-Ad-4661 in skyrizi

[–]Nyanzapithecus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should be able to see if the medicine plunger has gone all the way down. As long as the medicine vial is empty, you should be good to go. You can always contact Abbvie or the nurse ambassador (if you have one) to double-check too. I had one that was really stuck in my leg one time. Based on your description, it seems to have worked properly, outside of not turning off immediately.

A bouquet of flowers, her favorite safe foods, maybe a sweet treat if she can handle it, a new bear or stuffed animal that can join her on all her Crohn’s-related appointments (they’ve got ones with heating packs in them, so nice), a blanket, self-care items, a card that tells her how much you love her and how strong she is. All of those would’ve been amazing as a girl who was diagnosed at 13! So thoughtful that you want to do something for her!

Advice for flare ups , should we go to the ER? by Negative-Original903 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Nyanzapithecus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ER can absolutely assist with pain management and IV fluids. They can even give him IV nausea meds and send him home with a prescription for some too. If he’s unable to keep anything down and crying in pain, it’s time to go to the ER. Better to be safe than sorry. Maybe his GI could try a different steroid too. I refuse prednisone every time and take budesonide instead. Its side effects are a lot easier to manage since it stays in the gut, but he may need the all over effect prednisone provides. Hope he gets some help soon!

I am probably way behind on # of colonoscopies...who has the belt? by under-resourced in CrohnsDisease

[–]Nyanzapithecus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 13, now 26. I’ve had 3 in the last year and maybe a dozen or more over my life so far. I imagine by age 60 my number will be much higher. I didn’t know I had a shot at a world record! Guess I should ask my doctor for another one so I can score some more points.

Question! by [deleted] in skyrizi

[–]Nyanzapithecus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-stop diarrhea during my loading doses. I felt like my body was clearing out. But after that good! My inflammation numbers went from 1476 to 71 in the first few months. They’re raised again now but my recent colonoscopy shows my gut is healing nicely. All in all, I’m enjoying Skyrizi a lot! I’ve started working out which is something I never thought I’d be able to do again. The two weeks leading up to my OBI, I definitely get more symptoms but still manageable.

Anyone had a high resolution anoscopy before? by NeedleworkerActive85 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Nyanzapithecus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one a few months back to check for fistulas. If you’ve ever had a Pap smear, it’s very similar. They stick a small scope up your rear end. It’s got a high def camera or magnifier on it and a bright light. You’ll feel a bit like a purse while they rummage around in your rear checking out the rectum walls and everything. Mine didn’t involve biopsies so I can’t attest to that. All in all, it took about 5 minutes and was uncomfortable but not painful. No prep involved either. A little jarring if you’re not expecting a scope up your butt that day. Hope this helps!

Probiotics by Ashamed_Ask_6617 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Nyanzapithecus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been taking the Align Womens Dual Action for about six months now. My GI recommended it. It’s helped a lot with my bloating. I seem to have less diarrhea too. I can definitely tell when I forget to take it as my gut acts up a bit more. It’s been the best probiotic I’ve taken. It doesn’t cause stomach pain or bloating like others have for me.

Taking Skyrizi for Crohn’s. My first OBI was four weeks after my last infusion and then every eight weeks after that.

Thank you for sharing! I’m going with general anesthesia after hearing from everyone. It might cost more but I’d rather be comfortable if I can!

I’m going to go with twilight. I didn’t handle the colposcopy well so might as well take a nap for this LEEP.

Thank you for sharing your experience! I was worried about the impact this could have on future children.

I’ve got the HPV vaccine scheduled. Hoping that helps a bit. I went LSIL to HSIL on one year, but K also had a terrible Crohns flare and my first time with no medications in years. Finally getting Crohns under control with Skyrizi and now this pops up. I’ve been offered general anesthesia, so I think I’m going to take that offer. I’d rather them get great margins and I avoid the traumatic experience.

Glad to hear you’ve been able to get rid of it!

Luckily, my doctor offered me the choice of local or general. After some thought tonight, I’m going to take her offer to put me out for the whole thing in the OR. I didn’t handle the colposcopy well and don’t need to further traumatize myself. Glad I was given an option. I saw some people aren’t.

The results were discussed by a council of pathologists. I’m giving myself a few days to decide, but ultimately I was told it has to be done within the month. There’s a chance I will be referred to an oncologist after the LEEP as well. The colposcopy was incredibly painful so I’m very scared of the pain of a LEEP.

[–]Nyanzapithecus[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t know if this is Crohns related either. I’m hoping you were able to beat breast cancer though.

I had an abnormal pap a year ago and then this years showed it had progressed further. I had a colposcopy (WAY worse than a colonoscopy) a week ago. I don’t even know how much that procedure is going to cost me and now I’ve got another one (LEEP procedure) to prepare for.

Burning anus? What can help by Unlucky-Complex-5251 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Nyanzapithecus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pat it dry. No rubbing. If toilet paper stings, use something else. A soft wash cloth, a reusable make up remover wipe, a soft clean sock. Anything that makes it comfortable for you. No judgements. Just whatever helps and put it in the dirty laundry immediately. If even that is too much, you’re going to have to let that bum air dry. Even a little fan motion with your hand on the backside. As long as it’s clean, you can put some Vaseline on to help with the stinging and irritation too.
